I'm looking at speakers right now... I was thinking of getting the Hertz HSK 165 and the HCX 165.3, what do you guys think?

I'm a newb when it comes to car audio... Any help would be appreciated, as well as ideas for the sub, and amps.

What about the JL Audio HD900/5?

I've got a pioneer head unit, I'll get the model later, but it's a touch screen.

And my car came with the Bose system. (which is a pos)

And... since this is my first post...

Here is my car:

I enjoy the High Energy comps. Nice full sound.

Also, that amp is very nice, but quite pricey. If budget is not an issue, it'll work well. But if money is a factor at all, other amps will also get the job done for less.

I imagine you'd be wanting to run a sub off the 5th channel?

Can u give me some ideas for amps?

Thought About running the sub on the 5th channel, what do u recommend?

hertz makes amazing speakers, good choice there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

JL audio is typically over priced.

If cost isn't much of an issue, some good amplifier brands are: Audison, Zapco, and Zed

Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything from audison/zapco/hertz/morel. They're just amazing companies.

Try going to woofersetc .com and looking up those brands. See if they're in your price range.

typically an amp with a 5th channel for the sub will cost a bit more, but it does save space.

If you want the install to be as clean as possible, and your trying to conserve space, then using a 5th channel amp isn't a problem at all.

The only cons are the fact that its a bit more expensive, and the amount of power is usually limited. What I mean by this is, if your planning on running x2 2000w rms subs like most people on these forums, you won't be able to get that much from a 5ch amp.

I think the most i've seen in a 5th channel is 1000w on an audison amp. Its no longer produced though, and it used to cost about $1500.

But anyways, if you have the extra space, you could save a few bucks by buying a high quality front-stage amp, and a cheaper mono-amp for your sub(s).

You are talking about which sub to get right? Well if it is a sub are you trying to obtain loudness or sound quality? I have heard good things from Morel subs. They seem to be more borderline.

IMHO the Hertz "High Energy's" sound richer then the higher end "Mille's". So they would be my favorite Hertz comp for a good price:performance ratio.

As far as amps, a budget and what speaker would help narrow it down immensely.

Sub-wise: The SSA Dcon is solid little SQL (sound quality level) woofer. It'll operate great on 300-400rms. An IDQ is also extremely pleasant.

The High Energy's can be had for ~$300 a pair

The Dcon is $120

Hertz/Audison, JL, Zapco and all of the wonderful SQ companies tend to be quite pricey. :-/

There are MANY more budget friendly alternatives though. A budget of 1k can make you smile ear to ear if you research enough and find out what you are looking for out of your future system.

Well is money is not an option, then the Esotar 1200 (Dynaudio) may be something you may be interested in. Like I said Morel makes good stuff to. I love car audio too and you will quickly see that going broke is VERY easy to do. I dont have the 1200 but I have 2 Mw 182s. Yes the speaker and the amp are very important. Also consider the wiring, source unit, and what many of us forget about the dampening.

These are just recommendations for I havent had a chance to go to too many other subs. I will say that TruTech amps are really good products. The above mentioned amps are great too, just that the Tru have been known to follow the natural pattern of music. Therefore it doesnt make everything warm or crisp, it is produced just as the studio intended it to be.

sounds like your on the right track. I got the hertz millie mlk2's but from what I hear the other lines sound great as well. If you can get a deal on some hi end gear go for it, but if not take a look at zed audio, for the money you can get a sick amp. Do a quick search for your car on here and see what other guys did. Are you doing the install your self? YOu can have the best gear but you have to be spot on with the intall or you are just throwing money out the window.

I want quality. My budget is about $1000-1200.
For the whole system? If so, scratch that JL Audio HD900/5 off your list. The cheapest street price on that amp is around $700, give or take. Most of my local dealers won't budge off of $1,000 on it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
