thinking of getting a motorcycle

before i start let me explain my situation. I work in sanfrancisco and i have to commute an hour and a half each way to and from work. let me tell you it sux! and on top of that its $5 each way to take the bus and cost of gas to get to the bus stop (half hour away) i end up spending almost $300 a month and 60 hours a month geting to and from work. this is where the motorcycle comes into play. i dont know a whole lot about them but i hear they get great gas milage (around 50mpg or so) i wont have to pay any bridge tolls or parking fees because motorcycles are excluded from the bridge fees and you can park anywhere pretty much. and it can samve me a lot of time as they can go in and out of traffic when the highway get backed up really bad (which it always does) so im looking at it like a $2500 motorcycle investment could really pay off in no time. plus i could save my new car and make it last a lot longer. so my question now is what type of motorcycle would people who know about them recomend? im looking to spend probably no more than $2500 and id like something that looks like a street bike not a hog or chopper something that is agile. and also do you need a different class liscence to drive a motorcycle?

For an hour and a half commute you do not want to buy a crotch rocket. They are the most uncomfortable rides, unless you are purely racing. You should look into a used Honda.

And yes you will need to obtain a motorcycle license, very east to get.

Look at old Honda shadows,honda ACE, yamaha virago, suzuki muarder,other crusiers like that

just get a used honda civic... I would not want to ride a motorcycle 3 hours a day

x2. You want something that is comfy if you are driving for more than 30 minutes.

Unless you like the crotch rocket feel, like stated before, get a cruiser.

gotta think....mpg ur gunna have a smaller tank also.....having a bike...u get 50 mpg if u are conservative.....prolly 35 or so cuz i kno u will get on it when u want.

i know the honda rebel 250 gets about 90 mpg .. it aint fast at all, but I know you can get one for around 3500 brand new so surely a used one wouldnt cost much.

bike's are much more practical if you're

1. rich

2. decide to solely rely on the bike and all your trips are short, like a student for example
