Doing a install and was trouble shooting the amp not coming on. To test the remote with out taking the dash all apart I just ran a loop over from the power. I still had the remote hooked up to the HU also. I must have shorted it for a second or something because now the HU will not come on. Went ahead and took the HU out like I should have just done anyway and yes it has that "burnt" smell. Think this could have blown the HU?

At least it was the same HU that I had around 4 yeas ago...

nope, checked every dang on of them. under the hood, under the dask and the back of hu.

i actually went out and looked it all over again and i am really confused now... i actually terminated the amp remote to the harness going back into the car and not the hu. which explains why the amp was not coming on when the hu was on. still something just doesnt jive. why would my hu be fried?

maybe the stereo gods just felt it was time.
