I think file sharing (specifically music) weeds out those who are only interested in the monetary incentive. If it continues to go on this path, I feel that artists with no talent (most at this point, lol) will opt out of the industry and only the passionate will survive.

What does this mean? Better music for all! There are plenty of artists taking the hint. Remember when Radiohead released In Rainbows as a donation based download? They then released the album with a second disk for purchase.

I recently went to a Del (Deltron, Del the funky, from Hieroglyphics, appearances with Gorillaz, etc) concert a week ago and he announced the stimulus package. Had a stack of free discs lined in the back for us. He also has the album offered online ranging from MP3 to FLAC versions, all free. He obviously makes his money touring, and I was more than happy to support him with my 20 bucks. Was a killer concert. I would recommend it, very diverse line up musically. Called "The funk tour" I believe.

Can't comment on movies and software. I buy all my movies that are worth buying...

I do not mind buying a cd if it worth listening to. I however am not buying a cd with 2 good songs on it. It comes down to you putting out quality music and me buying or you putting out sub par an me downloading

Amen...back in the good ol' days...just about every track on a cd was good (or at least listenable). Now, you get one good song...and are extremely lucky if you get two. I'm not going to spend $10-15 on a cd that I only will listen to one song off of.

Exactly. I do own a few CDs. But my selection is very limited because the quality is difficult to predict and based on experiences from others. And I am not just talking about talent either. There are many websites that allow you to preview music. What pisses me off is when I buy a CD and I find that is compressed to hell just to get it louder. Hence, I am very cautious when buying a CD in the 21st century.

Like I said, regardless of what they do when they are in the studio, you still have to pay for what they possess if it is something you want. You cannot jsut steal whatever you like, thievery is against the law.

Alot of the major label bands out only have like one or two good songs per cd. All the rest is filler.

Seems rare now to find a cd where everything is worth listening too. Only example I can think of is Colbie Caillat Coco. Every song is great and has its place. Wouldnt feel right if anyone of of them was removed imo.

I don't see how "they make crappy music" is an excuse to steal. If you only like one or two songs, you are oftentimes able to buy those songs from a variety of vendors.

If the music is hard to acquire, then that is some justification for theft, as that is the only available avenue....but downloading mainstream music, no excuse, you are a dirty thief.
