Hi.
My name's Donn, and I have a Saab. It's a 2000 9-3, to be exact. It isn't exceptionally fast, or good looking, or even well mannered. Then again, who among us is?
I was a member here years ago under the name LoneRanger, and even designed and built hundreds of MDF/fiberglass/plexiglass enclosures for members of this forum and many others doing business as gnomeaudio.com. Honestly, I got out of the business and the hobby all together because life got in the way, as they say. In the time since then, I completed my college degrees, was blessed with a daughter who is now seven years old (BASS HEAD IN TRAINING!) and established myself in an unrelated job that I truly enjoy. I have no intention of returning to the hobby/industry in the same capacity as before, however...
I recently installed some car audio bits in my Saab, which I will detail below, but if you're one for pictures instead of words, you can just check out my insta (@tdonnballenger (TDonnBallenger)'s Instagram profile • Instagy)
Head unit: Pioneer AVH1700DVD basic touchscreen
Subwoofers: 2 JL Audio 10w0v3 d4 in JL powerwedge @2 ohm mono
Speakers: 2 JL Audio TR3.5 2-way front, 2 older MB Quart 6x9 rear
Amplifiers: Audio Art 100HC bridged @ 2 ohms mono (876w), Audio Art 240.4 bridged @ 4 ohms stereo to 6x9s (120w per channel) and the 3.5s running off the head unit.
The whole thing is wired with "oversize 8awg" (because I was initially only using the 240.4 for highs and an Audio Art 200.2 for subs) but I plan to upgrade the battery and ground to "oversize 4awg" soon to accommodate that beasty 100HC. I have a 60a ANL fuse in the front (6" from bat) and a 30a maxi on a distro block in the back for each amplifier. These amps could easily draw 90a in this configuration, but I'm responsible with the volume control so I don't burn my fuses. I've already done the 0/1 big 3 upgrade.
As I mentioned, I also have a matching audio art 200.2 which I plan to use for components in the existing door pods, but I'm not sure which components I want yet. The front stage definitely needs some help keeping up.
Anyway, I will be adding new updated pics to my Instagram as my project progresses. Aside from the components, I'd like to eventually upgrade to newer 6x9s, build an amp rack with cooling fans and plexiglass to show off those **** Audio Arts, and maybe even buy a single 15" dual 2 ohm sub and custom enclosure so I can take full advantage of my amps 1 ohm 1100w mono mode //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Thanks for looking, and I look forward to meeting new people, and learning new things. Having been out of the hobby for 10+ years, there's a whole generation of equipment and enthusiasts I need to catch up on. I also plan to attend the MECA event in Columbus this Friday, June 12th @ 1930EST. If you plan to go, hit me up and we can have a little meet and greet. Also, if you're in the 513 (cincy) near 45245 and would like to meet up and compare notes, I'm always down to meet new people.
