The worst you've been ripped off by your local shop?

Come on, anybody who's ever been talked into a CAP, chime in.
Ive never been talked into one but i had dimming issues on my first install so I picked up like a 20$ cap and it fixed it. Ive never had any problems with caps but i would never choose one over a battery now.

My fist system, way back in the day(im old).

Went in to purchase 2-12 inch subs and a pair of 6 1/2 coax. The shot build me the box. The box went into the back of my RX7. 12s in the back 6s in the front right behind the seats firing up.

Moved to Florida for college, a couple weeks later. Week after that one of the cones on the 6s flew off. I check the box out and it is divided into 2 cambers. Each chamber contained a 12 and a 6.

Called the store they said they would not give a refund or replace the speaker due to cust care. They said i purchase cheap equipment(which i got from them).

Alot of you should consider yourselves lucky, you learned your lesson cheap compared to us older guys who didn't have internet stores when we broke into the hobby. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i went to one shop, the guy tried to charge me $12 a foot of 0 gauge wire, $70 for fuse holder, and $200 for 1 15" kicker comp, i wasnt planning on buying anything i was just shopping around at the local shops to see who had the best prices, all of them r overly expensive. One shop i walked in and immediately saw jl audio as there main company and turned right around.

I knew enough to avoid getting ripped off when I started that I didn't get screwed. However, a guy I knew bought 2 pioneer thin mount 12's a prefab (for regular subs, not thin mount) and a 2000 watt "max" amp for 2000. Then there was install cost too, he never told me total lol.

Yeah, I learned my lesson very early... at 19, one day ago.
But yeah, I'm not going to go in and say anything even. At least I get a 1 year no questions asked warranty on my Diamond Audio d6's where I just pay shipping and handling for them to be replaced. Wahoo.

What do you mean, I found these forums? I knew the wiring kits ran from $100 and up, I walked in unfamiliar with the brand, db Link, and figured if the wiring kits ran $100 and up, that it would be similar in build/quality so I didn't really think twice about buying it. I should have went home to check the price on the item, but I didn't, obviously, did I? Also, as I said before, I have no problem spending $20-30 more to support local shops, however now after being told I was getting an item that was on sale for such a ridiculous price, I will think twice about dealing with many shops at all.
