I ran across this site the other day http://www.leap.cc/cms/index.php im sure some of you have seen it before. If you scroll down towards the bottom of the page, you'll notice the drugwar clock ticking away.

Thats just this year...so far anyway. Here's the actual link for a more detailed version.

http://www.drugsense.org/wodclock.htm

Eventually it led to this, its of LEAP members speaking about why prohibition doesnt work.

At the rate its going, I dont see why it wouldnt easily top $50+ billion. I dont even know if this includes the cost of keeping over 1.5+million NEW inmates every year.

I must say I agree with what they're saying. A great example is what happened with Escobar in the early 90s. Yeah they eventually killed him, but all that did was remove 1 cartel. Which is rare because they actually killed everyone, but how many different cartels are running Columbia? All it did was shift who made what profit.

It seems there's no end it sight, the only possible solution would be to eliminate profit. That means to end prohibition and to control whatever is out there. At least then billions after billions wouldnt be wasted running in place.

Then theres this guy.

So, what are your thoughts on this matter?

It really is kinda ridiculous. You would think after so many failed years with the War on Drugs, even the types of dumbasses who started it would have realized it's not working by now. I'm not sure if I got these ideas from Nader or Kucinich, but I think they should legalize non dangerous drugs like marijuana (or for christs ****ing sake, atleast reschedule them a little more appropriately). Then, rather than go after the users of the harder illegal drugs, focus more on the pushers and suppliers. I could go a little more into this, but I'm tired.

x2. I can understand xtacy, oxycotton, crack, and things like that illegal, but marijuana is the most common drug in the United States, and I still dont understand why it's illegal. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

Well first off weed is illegal just 'cause it is... it's not terrible stuff but in all honesty when was the last time you personally knew someone who was arrested and jailed for more than overnight for POSSESSION of weed. Hell in Oregon you just get a ticket.. that is pretty much decriminalized...

As for a reason to ban and FIGHT the harder drugs just take a look at china before the commies took over.... 1/3 of the country was seriously addicted to opium... the commies resorted to MASS EXECUTION to stop the problem... just a tidbit for those who are naive enough to think that all drugs ought to be legal...

Many of the other drugs got that way because of the damage they had caused. Up until 20's and 30's ALL drugs where dealt with on the local level. Cocaine used to be an ingredient in everything..... Opiates, Cocaine, MDMA, Methamphetamines, LSD and mescaline have no place in free open usage. That said LSD can be alot of fun but it should still be illegal. Just imagine cocaine being as legal as alcohol... addiction would be rampant....

haha I wish it was that way in Texas, after I sit in jail for a couple days, then was sentenced to 60 hours + 1 year probation for Posession of marijuana.
well it appears you live in the wrong state to be a pothead... though I can see why a border state would have stronger laws... Still that's not too bad... how much did you have?

The reason im thinking ending prohibition would work best is for us not to waste THAT much $ on this. The ONLY reason any cartels are even in such a business is because its so **** profitable.

Remove the ability to profit and those cartels are gone. I dont think doing most of these drugs are a good idea, but it certainly isnt worth wasting tax $ on people that would just be screened out via natural selection //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif If someone wants to fry themselves stupid on acid, go for it. Meth, crack, heroin, ect.. Thats your problem.

Just tag a 25+ year life sentance on those that choose to drive under the influence of anything (including alcohol).

I wasnt trying to turn this into a legalize marijuana thread, but even if just that is removed from prohibition it would cut the amount being spent in nearly half.

Our government will never ever allow those drugs to be legal on our streets.

You guys all know that buying drugs directly supports the terrorist we are at war with.

I think that anyone convicted of drug possession should also face treason charges for funding our enemies.

The phony war on drugs was nothing more than the opening salvo in an attempt to undermine long held rights under our Constitution.

Now that we have the even better for that purpose war on terror, the war on drugs isnt needed as much.

Very wrong in most aspects. It was originally illegalized as a racist movement towards mexicans and later on, blacks. Not only that, a few high ranking government officials faced to lose a substantial amount of their investments in DuPont if hemp research and production continued in paper and fiber.

Why is it still illegal today? No idea. There is absolutely no monetary reason not to legalize marijuana and hemp, which is what the government seems to be more concerned with anyways. I'm glad to see that some states like California and whatever that midwest state that was trying to legalize hemp are going around the federal law to try and get shit done.

hmmm interesting, who was the guy in politics that got caught with 50,000 grams of cocaine? That's a bit ridiculous, also how does buying drugs support terrorist? Borders have gotten A LOT tighter since 9/11 and while it still exists smuggling has been slowed down a lot. This being done drug dealers are now producing and not smuggling AS MUCH, such as growing own plants etc. I know this for a fact becuase lehigh, the next county over is very undeveloped and still "country" theres a grow house about every other street. All with Ak's and pits. I happen to be good friends with one of these individuals but we wont go into that...
