THE Thread

I bought a 9600pro recently with the 256meg ramI ended up returning it, the core was great and could be overclocked to slightly over 500mhz but the RAM was absolute garbage and was barely stable at its factory default of 200mhz.

The 128meg version runs circles around it due to the fact that the ram is of such a higher quality.

My final purchase was a Gigabyte Geforce 7600GS 256 which absolutely puts the spank on the old ATI9600pro, the core clock is the same at 400mhz default but the memory is twice as fast default and much more stable, The Nvidia card also has 12 pipelines as opposed to the ATI's 4, and no ****ed catalyst control center.

Best 3DMARK03 scores (with 1gig DDR3200 RAM, Intel Celeron 2.6Ghz 400mhz FSB, P4VM800 motherboard, 465watt 26amp 12volt PSU)

ATI 9600pro 256- 3200 points

Nvidia 7600gs 256- 8300 points, pure ATI pwnage, the ATI X800 series is the closest card with its performance level.

I suggest you have a peek at TIGERDIRECT they have awsome prices and hard to find hardware http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Category/category_tlc.asp?CatId=28

I have made several orders from them and couldnt be more pleased with the service (new 3.06Ghz processor in the mail from them right now).

PS-sorry I havnt been around for so long, career and lifestyle changes(new baby) have put car audio in the backseat for now.
hows this?

i dont wanna give him the brahma either...cuz then ill have this ****ed up MT w/ no use to me, and ill be like $350 down.

How does this overclocking of the VC work??
What does it do??
Its just like overclocking your computers processor, you make it run at a higher frequency(faster), drawback is that the processor will generate more heat and be more suseptable to instability. Think Tim Taylor and more power.

You have your core(processor) speed in Mhz

Then you have your memory(RAM) speed in MHZ

Increase the frequency and the performance increases, push it too far and everything crashes/locks up and on very rare occasion, burns to a little crisp.

I used ATItool for OC'ing the video card(yes it does Nvidia cards too now:) ) The computers processor speed can be adjusted in bios.

The highest I OC'ed the 7600gs 256 was 470core/470mem, I wouldn't reccomend it for daily use that way, it literally turned into a small furnace at that setting but it did run. 435core/450mem seems to be its stable 24/7 setting.

The 9600pro 256 went to 513core/200mem, the memory absolutely would not overclock without getting freaky.

My 2.6GhzIntel Celron processor gets unstable at anything over 2.8Ghz, a new processor is in the mail.

-Note- No two cards will OC exacty the same, this is just an example, attempting the same numbers on your own identical card may not be possible (standard disclaimer).

That card is a vicious baby killer with a drinking problem, you'll love it'

Core 370 MHz

Mem 525 Mhz (1050mhz effective, 2 sets of 128 ram together give total of 1050 but just pay attention to the 525mhz, all 256mb cards get rated this way to make them look faster)

My 7600gs specs

Core 400 Mhz

Mem 400Mhz

It should easily overclock to slighty over 400mhz core and the memory is huge to start with.

One drawback to that particular card is that the cooling system is noisy, but that means very little when your fragging noobs at 200fps.

Edit- be sure that your power supply can handle this card, 350watts and 26 amps on the 12v line is minimum I would use.

At tigerdirect

You want something in the 400watt range that has a 12v+ rating above 20amps

and a 20+4 pin connector to work with 20 and 24 pin connector motherboards

Like this one for example- http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2143207&CatId=0

Or this one-

actually can you price me together a decent pc, I mainly just play C&C Generals and it lags on just about every pc I've played it on.
Whats the motherboard model, processor model +speed, Ram type speed?

Heres a complete sytem, http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1576820&Tab=2&NoMapp=0

note- it only has a 300watt power supply and it takes PCI express graphics cards(which is the new standard anyway)
