You are talking about top speed. It does 159 mph with the engine stock. I'm not talking mph though. I'm talking drag racing. Acceleration is much more important in racing than top speed. If you gear a car tall it will take forever to get to top speed. Here something else you might not have known. A camaro hits it top speed of 159 mph in fifth gear. Do you know why? It's called physics. If a car is geared too tall the amount of air resistance at high speed is too great for the power of the car to overcome. So to answer you the camaro is also geared tall. Your mom's car probably doesn't go much faster if any faster in fifth gear than in fourth if it is geared tall like you say it is because the power of the engine coupled with the air resistance will be unable to overcome the resistance. Camaros are geared tall in sixth to save gas also. A sixth speed transmission is designed so that 1st - 5th is close together for quick acceleration and 6th is to save gas on the freeway
