THE Thread

Would clipping cause overextension? Whatever causes overextension I think is the cause for my speaker damage. My problem is the wire that runs from the speaker cone to the wiring terminal now has bad contact to the cone. I have to push down on the cone to get clean bass to come out of it.

Like the cannondale "head shok" it sucked, and you had to an expensive head tube "conversion" to make a normal fork fit it.

I used to be hardcore into mtn. biking. But as soon as i got a car, all of my money went into my car, and i've neglected my mountain bike.

If i were to start riding again, i'd need new forks, rear hub, rear cassette, i'd like new cranks, and new wheels. too much money for a bike right now. (it's a trek 7000)

Yes they do. I have to push down on the cone to get clean bass. Other wise it sounds like when to have a bad speaker wire conncetion. Looking at my brother's cheap fosgate subs it appears that there isn't enough glue where the wire runs into the cone on my subs. His have a decent size drop of glue, while mine doesn't have any real visible glue in that area. I think this lack of glue, along with over extension of the cone has cause the tinsel wire or voice coil to be damaged. Besides this the speaker looks totally normal.

You may just have a short in the connection from the tinsel lead to the terminal....solder it...short somewhere else...dont know someone can help you though...im sure, but thats all I can think of...

What if the short is at the speaker cone. I'm pretty sure that this is where it is. I'm either the king at destroying speakers or JBL GTO series just ****. Maybe you have to stick with their power series and GTI series. I've broke 6 of their GTO series subs, both their old and their new model. They have great customer service, but doesn't seem like a durable speaker. You'd think $80.00 a speaker would be enough to get a speaker that doesn't break. My brother got two bottom of the line fosgates, two for like $80.00 his don't sound nearly as good, but at least they don't break.
