The Process of Powder Coating an amp

We've never done any before. Plus we don't do candy jobs. We'll do top coat, primer/top coat, primer/top coat/clear, or top coat/clear. There's just no demand for candy colors around here. I would say that if we were to charge for something in a standard color it would probably be about $40 plus whatever prep.

Sweet Jason, i always knew you were gonna post a tutorial sooner or later. Looks great but looks kinda difficult. Someone in the westcoast perfect this, so i can get my Orion 2500d and 4004 powder coated!!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I am on the westcoast. Just what? A 2 day drive or something, ha. I'm sure you guys have people locally that could do just as good of a job if not better. Quotes should be free.

Flip - What company does he do that for?

Nope that's it. It's not even needed if you bead blast or sand blast first. It just helps a little more. As long as there is a good profile for the powder to adhere to. I've done the valve covers for my truck and didn't do any pretreat to them at all. I just went over the chrome. It just wouldn't be as durable as if it had been phosphated or blasted first.

Looks really good but I'm curious if youve had any problems with over heating.. I think itd be even harder to tell if it was over heating because the head would be trapped inside and you wouldent feel it so much on the out side...

Very well done.

An afterthought; If you've gone through the trouble to remove the board and scrape the thermal tape off the heatsink, look into using a nicer thermal compound than the cheapo pink tape; Here's the preferred alternative:

As noted, the heatsink is meant to dissipate heat; The more efficiently you can get the heat to the sink, the better a job it can do at cooling those fets.

So next time, scrape the tape, and go silver.
