The New Bus Bars (pics inside)

They are relatively simple to make with a drill press and a band saw. It started as a 2.5'' x .25'' x 36'' silver plated copper bar. The reason for the welds is so that the bolts do not turn. It is designed to comfortably join 20 runs of 1/0 gauge wire together. Because so much pressure can be applied to the wire from the copper through the bolts this design works very well for high conductivity.

Its amazing how biga chunk of aluminum you can get for 20-30 bucks!!

Not to nit-pick but....

you could have used brass bar and brass or stainless bolts. Or you could have used aluminum studs and threaded the bottom peice and TIG welded the studs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

According to what I could find on the intrawebz, copper is far more conductive than brass (one source mentioned 28% the conductivity of electrolytic copper). Aluminum is far better than brass as well (depending on the alloy). Unoxidized, anyway.

And with silver having the highest conductivity of all pure metals, copper second, I'd have to say that he made a **** good choice in bar materials.

Where did you manage to find silver plated copper bar?

found it on the internet. there are better ways to connect things but it either gets very expensive or more equipment is needed. i actually did all this with a file, hand drill, and a hack saw. and then brought it to the local welder. the best metal to metal connection would be with an element called rhodium (i think thats how its spelled).

Yea rhodium is more expensive then platinum and shit...You did a great job
