**The MLB Thread**

Jesus dood, they are 50 plus games into the season out of 162 and you are already writing them off? Wow!

Hell if anybody should be writing off a team, I should be with the Indians. Out of the 25 man opening roster, they only have 15 of them still. That means 10 of them either have gotten hurt, sent to the minors or just let go. We have had so many big injuries in just May that most people would write us off.

Good thing we still have been able to win a game here and there and we really are only out 7 games, and a couple from 3rd place. Still plenty of the season left and we should be getting some players back, but looks like Sizemore might be out for awhile. I haven't given up on them. Thank god for the Central being weak, lol!

Anyway, Icetee I am done with your banter, but one thing is for certain, I would not still have Bartolo Colon on the team............although I think he could pitch better than most of our starters could right now.

do you know whats going on with them?

Reyes looks like hes done for the year (torn hammy)

Delgado will come back September (how will he be?)

Putz needs surgery

Maine is hurt

doesnt look good.....if we dont make a big trade then its time to rebuild

Closer is the most overrated position in baseball. Your best relivers should be coming in the 7th and 8th innings with runners on base in tied games or small leads. That is more difficult than pitching with a lead in a clean inning.

Have u ever closed a game in a pressure packed situation?? I pitched my entire life and was the closer for my Legion team that went to nationals twice and pitched in plenty other important situations in my career.

Closers make or break many games and affect the middle/late relief in front of them. They give the people in front of them more confidence knowing that they lead will be held if they do their job correctly. Just look at the Angels this year, Shields and the other late relievers they have are doing terrible this year. In past years when they had K-Rod Shields was an all-star caliber setup man.

So coming in in the 8th with runners on 2nd and 3rd 2 outs game tied is not as pressure packed as no runners on 2 run lead? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif I'm pitching my best reliever in the 8th with runners on and the game in doubt. After all, a closer can't close without the lead.

Look at Joe Borowski. He had 40 some saves for Cleveland and was a terrible pitcher. Cleveland's best relievers that year were Beatancourt and Perez, not the closer. Same with Detroit in 2006. Zumaya and Rodney were much better pitchers than Jones.

I agree with the 7th/8th inning pressure situations being more important

holds are an underrated stat

BTW...we do have the #1 bullpen in the NL //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Parnell, Feliciano and Stokes have been great

I'm hoping Strasburg prices himself out of the #1 pick and falls to Detroit. Illitch has shown he'll pay for picks. Tigers would not have been able to draft Verlander, Maybin, Miller, Porcello without going over slot.

Washington takes Strasburg, Tigers take Jacob Turner. Seems to fit the Dombrowski mold. Hard throwing right hander. Probably spend a few seasons in the minors and not rise as quickly as Verlander or Porcello.

Boras always throws out ridiculous numbers. If Washington didn't want to pay some money for him, they wouldn't have drafted him. Then again, Washington can get a top pick next year plus a compensatory pick in what should be a deeper draft.
