**The MLB Thread**

The gold glove is a bullshit award. Pedroia's fielding percentage, range factor, and zone rating were worse then Polanco's who won the award in 07 based on offense. If Polanco was good enough in 07 to win the award, he should've been good enough to win it in 08. It just goes to show that playing on a good team and putting up good offensive numbers equates to a gold glove.
Runs scored? That is a team stat, dependant on guys like Manny, Bay, Ortiz to drive him in. Take away those sluggers and Pedroia doesn't lead the league in runs scored.

Sure he's deserving of the silver slugger, but MVP? Christ Jermaine Dye had a better Slugging percentage and OPS, with more home runs.

The best season at 2nd base in a long time? Did you watch baseball in 07? did you miss Polanco's 07 season? Roberto Alomar? Jeff Kent? Robinson Cano? First Albert Pujols is Michael Jordan now Pedroia is the next great 2nd basemen in recent memory?
yes, pujols is the michael jordan of baseball, and yes dustin pedroia is the best second baseman in baseball right now. Kent was the best, but the torch has been passed to utley in the NL and Pedroia in the AL. I still think Utley will have a better career than pedroia, but who knows for sure right?

Oh, and in recent memory, the best second baseman is jeff kent......... i don't know who said pedroia is the best in recent memory, but that is not true. LOL

I would say A-rod is the best player. Pujols the best hitter, but I'm not even close to naming Pujols the Jordan of baseball or the greatest of all time.
A-Rod is not a better fielder than Pujols. Maybe a better baserunner, but a much worse player in the clutch.

I'd take Pujols over Arod any day.

That is so stupid. A rod has a much lower slugging percentage in his career, a much lower average, a much higher strikeout rate, a much lower OBP and OPS than pujols.

Their career numbers aren't even comparable man, what are you talking about? It's funny how pujols has a +30 point advantage in all those career categories and you still give the nod to AROD. LOL

Pujols

Avg. .334

OBP. .425

Slugging. .624

Arod

Avg. .306

OBP. .389

Slugging. .578

Don't give me the clutch shit. In Seattle he would've been considered clutch and he just lost his clutch in New York? A-rod has declined some, especially defensively, but I'd take the Seattle A-rod over Pujols.

Dude...Arod doesn't hit when it matters. If you don't know this, you've never watched the Yankees play.

He'll hit 2 HR's when they're beating KC 12-3, but when they're losing to Boston 3-2 in the 9th, he'll strike out/fly out/ground out 100/100 times.

You need to learn the game before you comment seriously.

Arod has hit .330 once, it was his first full year. Pujols has hit .330 5 times already. Did you know that pujols has the highest BA of anyone in baseball right now, even better than ichiro?

Pujols is better in every way, shape or form besides his speed. Period.

Craig Monroe was clutch in 2006. Don't give me this clutch argument.

I never said Pujols was a worse hitter then a-rod, but a-rod in Seattle played a premium position defensively. Pujols is a solid 1B, but a SS is much tougher then 1B and much harder to find a quality player. Given a-rod's above average defense at one of the toughest positions, plus his speed, he would be the better player, not hitter. This is back in his Seattle days. His production and defense has slipped recently.

Pedroia? Are you kidding me? The AL must of sucked this year. At least Cabrera finished 13th.
If it wasn't for Dustin, they wouldn't have made the playoffs. He does more than just hit homeruns.......and of course RBi's is a team stat, which he did well at as well. I am not a big fan of Boston, but he deserved it with out a doubt.

I think Dustin deserved it...ignore the lack of the usual power numbers that labels an MVP and observe his clutch hitting and stellar defense. He was a big reason why the Red Sox made it to the playoffs.
x2!

LOL ignore all his stats? His slugging was under 500, his OPS was under 900, OBP of 376 and he is MVP? Manny and Bay were more valuable to the Red Sox then Pedroia.
Manny and Bay were not playing to their potential considering one was on a shit *** Pittsburgh team and the other had so many problems with his own team. Hell you could tell he wasn't trying out there in Boston.

no, no, no. That is wrong. Howard was way better than utley this year, he finished second and had 8 first place votes to pujols' 12. Pujols is the best hitter we have ever seen in our lifetimes and is most likely going to break every career number there is in baseball, well, at least most of them.
The MVP is so messed up right now though, pujols should have won in 06, but howard won it, and howard maybe should have won it this year since the phils won the WS.
Better HR and RBi hitter, yes! Now team leader and overall player, no. Utley has the all around game to where Howard will be the power hitter who strikes out a shit ton. Now yes if he was to cut down on the strike outs and improve on his hits ratio, then his numbers would be scary and might be some of the best we have ever seen, but just don't see that happening with the swing he has. Would need to change everything to do so.........so then his power numbers would drop. He will do his thing with the homers, but will be lucky to hit anywhere near .300. He is just an average 1st baseman to boot.

I wouldn't say smash. Cabrera's numbers were trending upwards till last season.
Going to be funny if Detriot ever gets rid of Cabrera, then you will just talk shit about him and the whole time he was on your team will be for nothing. Kinda like Billups.

So does Lou Gehrig and Ted Williams
Different time mang. Not even fair to compare them to the old timers as baseball was different back then, not to mention with todays equipment and how strong players can become. So STFU about that!

Oy Vey.
Craig Monroe sucks.

Pujols is a great hitter that hits WHEN IT MATTERS.

David Ortiz is a great hitter that hits WHEN IT MATTERS.

Arod is a great hitter that can't hit shit WHEN IT MATTERS.
I know Monroe sucks which is why I brought him since he was a hitter who hit when it mattered.
