**The MLB Thread**

His OBP took a hit this year as he had a down year, but it was trending upwards. Pro Player Stadium also eats up righties. Through the age of 25, Cabrera had more hits then Pujols, and trailed in home runs 175-201. Pujols didn't really walk more then Cabrera, he had a little bit higher batting average which led to a higher OBP. I don't care about strikeouts. A lot of great hitters strikeout.

Pujols smashes him in every category, and miguel cabrera had more plate appearances over his first 5 seasons.

I wouldn't rate Pujols as the greatest hitter of this generation. I mean David Wright and Alex Rodriguez could make arguments. Hell what about Frank Thomas in the mid to late 90's?

Nobody in the history of baseball has put together 8 straight season that compare to pujols.

Ok Babe Ruth disagrees.
well, i guess if you count the dead ball era where the pitchers only threw 75 MPH with no curveballs and changeups. Also, the same pitcher pitched almost every game and there weren't any relievers, so the batters got to see the same pitcher the whole game. I could go on and on about the advantages the oldschool players had as far as stats are concerned, but i would be here all night. For example, look at the amount of triples players had between 1885 and 1945, i don't think any of the players had less than 8 in a season. Even ruth had like 12 one year LOL!!

Ok you said he has had the best 8 years ever and I can think of Barry Bonds, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Fox, Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, possibly Joe Dimaggio who have similar if not better runs, so then what is your definition of "ever"? since 2000? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

I doubt Pujols is going to break career records. He will not stay healthy long enough. I heard he needs Tommy John surgery and has been putting it off.
He needed the surgery at the beginning of last season.

The dude not only played through it, but won an MVP with the injury. That speaks volumes about what kind of player he is.

IMO, he's putting together one of the best careers in the history of the game.

Also if those players played in the dead ball era, doesn't that make their numbers that much more impressive in a down time offensively? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif Vs. the live ball era when lots of hitters put up big numbers.

Tommy John surgery would require him to miss a year. I don't think He'll break career records, especially if a-rod puts them out of reach.

I think he's hoping that he doesn't need the Tommy John now. He's played with the torn UCL for a while now, and it sounds like he may need it.
