**The MLB Thread**

If anyone from philly would have won it, should be Chase Utley as he does so much more for his team. Howard just hits the ball out of the park, not much else IMO. Strucks out way to much......now if he became a decent hitter while keeping power #'s up, then yeah. People look at those huge HR numbers and basically was the only reason he won it before, which is BS as an MVP should be based on many things, not just HR's and Rbi's.

Well according to bigfagtheory, hitting the ball out of the park doesn't have much value. Who cares about a strikeout? An out is an out. A lot of great hitters strike out over 100 times. Pujols is still a better hitter. Higher OBP, higher slugging, higher OPS.

Not if his impact was meaningful HR and RBI. Ortiz had that kind of year too but the DH card was pulled and he did not get it. Pedroia may win the AL MVP today, I think he fits the mold of an MVP that your saying I think. gold glove, one of the leaders in hits, ave, etc.

BTW....expect the Mets to have a completely new bullpen in 09

then we shall go to the playoffs once again

Pedroia? Are you kidding me? The AL must of sucked this year. At least Cabrera finished 13th.

I think Dustin deserved it...ignore the lack of the usual power numbers that labels an MVP and observe his clutch hitting and stellar defense. He was a big reason why the Red Sox made it to the playoffs.

no, no, no. That is wrong. Howard was way better than utley this year, he finished second and had 8 first place votes to pujols' 12. Pujols is the best hitter we have ever seen in our lifetimes and is most likely going to break every career number there is in baseball, well, at least most of them.

The MVP is so messed up right now though, pujols should have won in 06, but howard won it, and howard maybe should have won it this year since the phils won the WS.

I doubt Pujols is going to break career records. He will not stay healthy long enough. I heard he needs Tommy John surgery and has been putting it off.
he already got surgery and is expected to play by spring training, i can't wait to see how good he is next year. Gonna be his first year healthy since 03'.

Miguel Cabrera has put up similar numbers to Pujols through the age of 25.
miguel cabrera is an amazing hitter, but he just isn't on pujols' level. He strikes out too much and doesn't have a high OBP for his career. He is probably the 2nd or 3rd best hitter in the league right now though.

I have to say that him and pujols are the most consistant players in baseball now.

His OBP took a hit this year as he had a down year, but it was trending upwards. Pro Player Stadium also eats up righties. Through the age of 25, Cabrera had more hits then Pujols, and trailed in home runs 175-201. Pujols didn't really walk more then Cabrera, he had a little bit higher batting average which led to a higher OBP. I don't care about strikeouts. A lot of great hitters strikeout.
