I think Minny is thinking about the future
2 draft picks or a nice package of top prospects from the Mets

BTW...the Twins cant compete against the Tigers and Indians //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
I know but you don't want to tell your fans that. They'll get good value at the deadline, regardless Minnesota has done very well drafting and devloping, but that was with Terry Ryan.

According to Charley Waters in the Pioneer-Press, the Twins are expected to trade Johan Santana within 10 days.

By the way, in his blog for ESPN.com, citing ‘a couple of sources,’ Buster Olney writes that the Red Sox have taken Jon Lester of the table.

According to Joel Sherman in the New York Post, “The Mets fear their front-runner status is being floated by the Twins as a way to provoke the Yanks back into more serious discussions, which in turn would re-energize the Red Sox.”

Sherman quotes an official from an opposing team who says the Mets offer has not changed since December, but that is when Phil Hughes was being offered by the Yankees and the Red Sox were giving multiple options as well.

…from what i can gather, the Twins are holding this whole process up more than any one – as they continue to flip flop between wanting a basket of prospects or a major-league center piece…

…the sense i get is that the Mets are trying to fine a way to offer one or two better prospects and some so-so major-league talent together, which may not be Minnesota’s top option, but it’s better than two draft picks…

…again, as i have been saying for so, so long: this is going to come down to santana and his agents, and how much pressure they put on the Twins…from what i can gather out of people connected to santana, he and his agents may have hinted to the Twins that a decision must be made within the next day or so…i don’t think they went as far as to set a deadline, or make any specific demands, but that may not be far behind…

Rival awareness: Curtis Granderson made a stop in the Chicago area this past weekend to visit family, help out during a baseball clinic at South Suburban College and receive an award last Sunday night from the Pitch & Hit Club of Chicago.

In an ironic twist, the Detroit superstar also had to talk down a few distraught White Sox supporters who already had given the American League Central to the Tigers while mingling at the dinner in Rosemont.

"Fans are coming up to me and saying, 'Our team is done' and 'We are going to lose out to you guys,'" Granderson said. "But the only thing I can say is look at 2006 for us. We went from 2004 and 2005, where we were not too good, and boom, in one day you can turn it around.

"It all can happen in a blink of an eye," Granderson added.

Granderson was surprised by the offensive struggles for the 72-90 White Sox from 2007, but he believes the proven veteran hitters will bounce back and perform as they have previously.

"[Nick] Swisher in there also mixes things up a little," Granderson said.

DETROIT -- The Tigers are preparing to open the spring with Brandon Inge on their roster, and Inge appears to be on board with the plan.
Inge spoke with general manager Dave Dombrowski about his situation, and the Tigers said he has agreed to report to Lakeland on Feb. 13, with the pitchers and catchers. The Tigers want Inge, if he remains with them, to spend some time catching, so that he could be used behind the plate, as well as at various other positions.

The Tigers have been trying to trade Inge since the winter meetings, when they acquired Miguel Cabrera from Florida. He expressed to the Tigers his desire to be dealt, but in reality they had been trying hard to trade him even before they talked to him. But Inge's contract (he's due more than $19 million over the next three years) and his offensive decline in 2007 made him difficult to trade, and in recent weeks the Tigers began to consider the idea that they would keep Inge and use him at many positions.

Inge was a catcher before the Tigers signed Pudge Rodriguez in 2004, but since moving to third base he has said that he had no interest in moving back behind the plate. If he were to accept such a move, he could easily have a future with the Tigers, because Rodriguez will likely leave as a free agent after 2008 and the Tigers have no obvious replacement.
With Vance Wilson's health in question, this will be good for the Tigers, plus Inge can be Cabrera's defensive replacement late in games.

The Phillies have signed free-agent 3B Pedro Feliz to a two-year contract, reports Jayson Stark of ESPN.com.

Feliz batted .253 with 20 HR and 72 RBI in 150 games for the Giants last season.

It must **** to have a franchise that does nothing in the off season. I guess it could be worse if you are a fan of a franchise that does nothing in the same division as a franchise wou made the biggest splash.

Good times, good times

Delgado

Castillo

Reyes = Rollins

Wright > Feliz

Church = Jenkins

Beltran > Victorino

Alou = Burrell

Schneider/Castro > Ruiz

Our Bench > Their Bench

Our Starters = Philly Starters

Our Bullpen > Philly Bullpen

Wagner > Lidge

Phils have a better offensive team, but we have better pitching (not by much)

if everything stays the way it is, the Phils will take the division again

the Mets are going all out for Santana

if we acquire him, there is no doubt that we are the best overall team in the NL (with LA being a close 2nd)
