…having talked with a variety of people over the last few days, ranging from those who are connected to the team to people connected to player reps to those who work in media and for teams who are following the negotiations, from what i can gather, Johan Santana prefers to be on the Mets, where he can a) be in New York City, and b) get out of the hitter-dominant American League…

…the Twins are well aware of this, and are willing to accommodate his request, while also trying to maximize the level of talent they get in return…

…so, over the last few days, if not longer, the Twins have been speaking on and off with the Mets, who are willing to flood them with young talent, but who refuse to provide a major-league ready, immediate-impact player, like Jose Reyes…

…since the Yankees and Red Sox will not part with more than one or two of their best prospects, acquiring up to five or six semi-developed, high-ceiling players from the Mets is starting to be Minnesota’s most attractive option, and they’re comfortable with that - especially considering that santana can ‘strongly suggest’ he end up in Queens, seeing as he has a full no-trade clause…as such, the Mets and Twins have essentially agreed upon what players can and cannot be involved in the trade, and so it’s now up to santana and his agents to frame out a contract extension…

…however, while santana wants a seven-year contract, the Mets - like most teams - will not offer more than five…and understandably so, since a) it is nearly impossible to get such a contract insured, especially for a pitcher, and b) it is widely believed that the Yankees and Red Sox will not have offered him such a long-term deal either…at the same time, he is the best pitcher in baseball, and believes he should be compensated at or above the same level as Barry Zito, which is understandable, as well…the thing is, i do sense that he and his agents are willing to work out a solution to get him to Queens, and so they will not take a hard-line position like zito and Scott Boras did…

…in other words, from what i can tell, if santana doesn’t end up on the Mets, it most likely means that either a) he and the Mets could not agree to the terms of a contract extension, b) the Twins simply chose to keep him for one more opening day, or c) the Twins had no choice but to skip over the Mets to accept a much-better offer that they couldn’t refuse, and santana did not stand in their way, which all is still very possible…

…i still do not have my hopes up, but i do have hope…

ZOMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

please lord please!

MADISON, Wis. -- The Milwaukee Brewers reached a preliminary agreement on a $10 million, one-year contract with free-agent reliever Eric Gagne, giving the team another option at closer after losing Francisco Cordero to free agency.

Gagne

Gagne's deal, which is subject to him passing a physical, will allow him to earn an additional $1 million in performance bonuses, a person familiar with the negotiations said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the contract has not been finalized.

Gagne's agreement was first reported by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel on its Web site.

"We're not there yet," Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said Saturday night at the Marquette-Wisconsin basketball game.

Melvin said the Brewers' interest in Gagne didn't indicate a lack of confidence in reliever Derrick Turnbow, considered the most logical candidate to take over as the Brewers' closer after Cordero finalized a $46 million, four-year deal with Cincinnati.

"We're just adding depth," Melvin said.

The Brewers were interested in trading for Gagne before last season's trading deadline, but lost out to the Boston Red Sox. Gagne struggled in Boston, going 2-2 with a 6.75 ERA in 20 games after being traded from Texas, but Melvin said he still considered the right-hander a potential closer.

"He's got a history of closing, and he's a guy that can help our bullpen on the back end," Melvin said.

Gagne had 152 saves with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2002 to 2004, the most in a three-year period in major league history, and won the NL Cy Young Award in 2003. The Canadian's streak of converting 84 consecutive save opportunities in those years is far and away the longest in major league baseball.

Lets see, Cabrera is 24 and is putting up numbers similar to Hank Aaron and Alex Rodriguez, or a guy like Maybin who has potential? Give me the proven 24 year old. Cabrera was an all-star at the same age Maybin is now.
1. Hank Aaron (950) *

2. Ken Griffey (917)

3. Frank Robinson (911) *

4. Orlando Cepeda (910) *

5. Hal Trosky (902)

6. Joe Medwick (894) *

7. Al Kaline (893) *

8. Mickey Mantle (892) *

9. Andruw Jones (882)

10. Vladimir Guerrero (879)

The players with asterisks are hall of famers. Those are the hitters Cabrera compares to at the age of 24. 6 hall of famers and Griffey is a sure hall of famer and possibly Guerrero. Maybin clearly was not ready to be in the big leagues last year. He still would need another year in the minors but since Florida sucks he will be on the big league team. Same with Miller. Also Maybin is a CF and looked lost in LF. Granderson is the Tigers CF. Granderson isn't going anywhere.

The Tigers rotation was the best in baseball just 2 years ago. That rotation is still intact except for Maroth they have Willis. Also all 5 of Detroit's starters pitched 200 innings in the past 2 seasons. With this offense, if they can get 200 innings, they'll win games. The Tigers had injuries to Bonderman, Rogers, and Robertson last year. Hard to compete when 3 of your 5 starters are injured, and then lose Zumaya and Rodney, your two best relievers.

I don't know how delusional you can be. The Tigers were in it almost the entire season, with a depleted pitching staff, injury to Sheffield, and black holes in the form of Inge, Casey, Pudge, Monroe and what ever cluster**** played left. They add Cabrera, Renteria, Jones, and Willis and you still believe Cleveland can compete when they have done nothing? Then you have the Yankees who have worse pitching then the Tigers and an offense not quite as good as Detroit's? This team could very well score 1000 runs, and the pitching staff is as good if not better then last years that gave up 797 so they could have a 200+ run differential, vs. the 90 they had this year which won them 88 games so you can pencil them in for 95-100 wins, and add the fact Chicago sucks, Kansas City is KC and Minnesota is disintegrating.

Now back to Miller. Countless time you said he sucked now you say he is good? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif Besides the Tigers have Porcello, and will go over slot in the next draft to get the best talent available. Willis had a bad 07 but has maintained an ERA of around 3.5 for his career. People sure have forgotten Beckett's 5 ERA in 2006.
I don't even know where to start, but I will try with this clusterfawk of a post you created.

You comparing Cabrera to the greats of the game is a little pretense don't you think? Not saying he won't be there one day or has put up the numbers they have at their age, but you are just a Tiger Homer who picked up a good player, so now start the nut riding! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Also I brought up Maybin and Miller being you nut rode them while they played, just like you do any other player on the Tigers. I never heard you talk about how good Cabrera was, nor Willis was before this trade. Now, OMG, this is the biggest trade ever! Please bish, tell me another one. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I never said anything about Miller being good, I said I would almost rather have him than Willis who is way overrated to me. You said you thought he was good. Learn to comprehend moron!

Yes, lets bring in injuries as the main excuse once again. Cleveland tied for the MLB best record and had quite a few injuries as well in Nixon, Dellucci, Barfield, Lee and a couple others not coming to me at this moment. So I could say the samething. Lee was a decent pitcher and was supposed to be our #2 starter at the beginning of the season. Nixon we picked up, we were big on in RF to fill that void. Barfield we paid a good amount to get him to be our 2nd baseman and Dellucci was to platoon with Michaels in LF. They all got hurt and when returned, struggled. Same as most of your Tigers when they got hurt. All their numbers went down as well. So stop using that lame *** excuse.

Also Cleveland can compete and will. They may not have done much, but we are still trying to get Crawford or Bay, however I haven't kept on that much, so maybe they signed or went some where else. Not sure, but would be nice to get one of them. Still I think we will be fine. We have the Cy Young award winner who you ranked #4 or 5 in your rotation:laugh: and have the likes of Martinez, up and comer Asdrubal Cabrera, Steady Casey Blake, Sizemore, Hafner, Carmona, Westbrook and Byrd. Then have a decent relieving core to boot. Still hate our closer though. We will be able to compete, never said anything about winning it all, like you seem so sure of.

Also you said you added Jones. Did you forget he was your closer last year. :laugh:Dumbass!

ESPN is reporting that the Chicago Cubs and OF Kosuke Fukudome have reached an agreement.

The terms of the contract have not officially been announced but it’s rumored to be a 4-year $50 million deal.

…fukudome was all the rage in japan and i know the padres were going after him hard, but he made up his mind rather quickly after deciding to leave japan. it makes you wonder if anyone else really had a chance…

…i’m certainly interested to see if he can be as successful in the majors as he was in japan, but let’s be honest, i’m more excited to name my fantasy team after him and hear sportscasters mispronounce his name…

In a recent report for SI.com, citing ‘people familiar with those talks,’ Jon Heyman writes…

‘The Mets offered different packages of prospects that included either outfielder Carlos Gomez or outfield prospect Fernando Martinez but not both, declining to include the one extra prospect the Twins requested to clinch the deal according to people familiar with those talks.’

…the way i have heard it, also from people connected to these talks, the Twins want gomez plus four pitching prospects…yes, four…so, based on my understanding, coupled with heyman’s, i think it’s safe to assume that the Mets offered gomez and three pitching prospects, the Twins countered by asking for a fourth pitcher or martinez, and the Mets declined…

…for what it’s worth, over the weekend, i did suggest the two sides were fairly close to agreeing on players for a trade, if they hadn’t already…frankly, i didn’t think it was that close, though…but, wow, i guess it was…

SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Twin Sign Craig Monroe

UPDATE, 12-11-07 at 8:05pm: Jerry Crasnick says Monroe will get $3.82MM plus incentives based on plate appearances. Joe Christensen notes that it's a non-guaranteed contract.

I had ideas about the Tigers signing Nathan next off-season, but it looks like he'll command 5 years 80+ million with all these reliever salaries //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
Nathan went to my college.

Giants have signed Aaron Roward to a 5-year deal, according to KNBR (Giants station). WTF?!?!?!!?!? like they need another No. 2 hitter.
