**The MLB Thread**

::shakes head::
polanco is a veteran who makes more money then infante. infante is an up and coming player. they are grooming him into an everyday player. he is a raw talent, who really should've been in the minors the past few seasons. did you watch that boston game? no way in hell polanco makes the play infante did at second. he took away a hit and threw out lopez from the outfield
Ok he makes more money? DUH! He has been in the leauge longer and proved that he can play. Also, how long does it take to groom someone? 4-5 years? I mean come on dude, if he was so good, then he would be playing, period. He is only in there for one reason and one reason only. Polanco got hurt and when he comes back I betcha Polanco is back in the starting line up given he is close to 100%.

Didnt see the game the other day, but go look up Polanco on MLB.COM and check out his achievments and read. They say he is one of the better 2nd baseman in the game. His fielding % is pretty impressive. I guess they would be wrong too and rank Infante better than Polanco. Your a funny guy Icetea.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

dude stfu. infante is 24. polanco was not the player he is now at 24. if polanco was so great, how come st. louis or philadelphia make him the everyday 2nd basemen?

Are you a half wit or something? Polanco was the starting 2nd basman most of his career. Like I said, go to MLB.com and read his achiements. Most of the time he was the starting 2nd baseman until he got hurt. That is his biggest down fall. He always gets hurt. Your just pissed cause I am right and your not, but yet you will fight till the death and now you hit rock bottom to the point your not making sense.

I thought you liked these debates and such, but if your gonna get all emo, I will stop. Dont want to e-hurt your feelings over baseball and such.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

because i like arguing with people that know what they are talking about. all you do is throw around false stats like polanco being an all-star and crawford winning gold gloves.

HittingInfante has gotten stronger. He has excellent bat speed and a quick trigger, and he likes fastballs up in the strike zone. That was the pitch most of his home runs were hit on. He still is an unpolished hitter when it comes to pitch recognition. Good pitchers who mix up their offerings continue to puzzle him, and there are times when he appears utterly confused at the plate. Those times became fewer as last season moved on, however.

Baserunning & Defense

Infante is an excellent athlete with exceptional range for a second baseman. He makes the play up the middle very well. He has sure hands and his concentration level in the field, so poor during 2003, has improved. He turns the double play equally well from second or short. He also played center field a couple times last season and was more than adequate. Infante has an average arm and always seems to be fighting off some kind of sore arm. He has above-average speed, but has yet to develop a knack for stealing bases.
once infante learns how to hit in the majors and off-speed pitches he will be a great player. adding a veteran like polanco helps infante develop into a big leaguer. infante should've been in the minors a few seasons ago

I admitted first hand when I was wrong about that. Those were facts, this is more merely of opinion. But you would be a dumb a-s-s to believe that someone who has been in the league for 4 plus years who has one soild season under him and sucked then to have so much potential and is so much more talented then Polanco. Thing is Polanco has contibuted to a lot of the sucess of the team. Solid 2nd baseman who can produce hits and bring runners home. I mean he is what 2nd in the lineup? So 44 rbi's is pretty good. If he didnt get hurt, your looking at 60 to 70 rbi;s out of him. So pretty good player if you ask me.

Also I tend to think I know a lot about sports and we always go back and forth about it as I do with slammed, adam and phat. So no need to get all pissy bro. Maybe you need to go drink some more water.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

infante is a better athlete then polanco. that simple. polanco is a heady player. he gave the tigers something they desperately needed. a guy at the top of the lineup who could put the ball in play. they also stole him from philadelphia. now polanco is 30. he has a lot of good years left. so why hasn't detroit locked him up to a long term contract? cause they have infante waiting in the wings.

by your theory you would've wrote off jeremy bonderman already. 3 seasons prior to this with an era above 4 and a 19 loss season, so he must have sucked right? well he is 23 and is learning the big league game. like infante he has talent and you can't teach that

Pitching is a completley different breed. There are many players that have had bad years and then Boom, they are doing good, then they go back down. Like Kenny Rogers for instance. I am talking about someone in Infante who is an infielder and is in the lineup, not a pitcher who yes has sucked, but has proved himself before this season that he has talent(Bonderman). Now Infante hasnt done shit in years now. Also Polanco's numbers in the beginning of his career where better than Infantes as well. Your running in circles Tea. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif Its like a broken record. You think Infante is better, to where I think Polanco is better and is a better fit for them right now. Next year is next year. Also I wouldn never give a long contract to anyone who is injury proned, that would be pretty stupid now dont you think? That to me is the one thing Infante has over Polanco for sure. At least he seems to stay healthier.

i don't have much time so i'll try to make this brief. you said they don't give contracts to injury prone players? then why is magglio on the team? or pudge? both were battling injuries and detroit overpaid to get them. my argument is infante is more talented and a better athelete then polanco. when you compare the stats of polanco at infante's age, they were not good. hell polanco was in the minors, at the age infante was brought up to the majors.

Because they dont get as injuried as someone prone like Polanco. Ordonez was hurt a couple years and pudge was a little. Pudge is probably one of the most durable catchers out there, period. Go ahead argue that one too.l:rolleyes: Polanco did play in the minors. He was drafted in 1994 with St. Louis, but played in the minors 4 years, then was brought up. Thing is he was 24 in 2002 and had 4 years under his belt in the MLB. So he wasnt in the minors at the same age as Infante is right now. I dont know where you came up with that, or really what that has to do with any of this, but yeah.

When it comes down to it. I think the Tigers will be fine, just that I personnally think Polanco is the all around better player period. He is prone to injury and that is his only down fall. Now if it was only a couple years where he got hurt, then Detriot or some other team would have given him a big contract, but he is signed for 4 years with Detriot.
