**The MLB Thread**

infante is a quality. he's only 24 and has a lot of potential. he's not the contact hitter polanco is, but he has some power. infante can turn on a fastball as well as anybody. he also gives the team more speed and has more range at 2nd base, but maybe not as steady as polanco, but a solid defender. imo detroit won't miss a beat. they also got santiago in the minors, who is fast and great defensivly.
Polanco will be missed though. He was hitting close to .300, which infante never has nor can I see him doing, plus he is no where near the contact hitter Polanco is. Personally I think Polanco has better range as well. Just overall besides power and speed, I think Polanco is better. Hey I was right about Ganderson as well. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

lol i suppose you watched the tigers in the past and seen infante? infante is only 24 and is talented. he has potential. polanco is not as fleet of foot as infante. polanco has proven he is a major leauger, wheras infante is nothing but potenial. detroit can slide guillen into the 2 spot and bat monroe and young behind magglio and plug infante into the 7, 8, or 9 spot

I have and know he was drafted by the Tigers. They brought Polanco over from the Phillies a couple years ago if I am correct and made him the starter. now when Gullien went down it gave Infante a chance and he was playing shortstop along side polanco, right? Well Gullien came back healthy this year and did you see the younger, more potential Infante starting over the vet Polanco at 2nd? I didnt.

of course they play the veteran. polanco was brought here last year at the trade deadline. he was the starting 2b and ss last year. you don't replace an all-star shortstop unless infante had one hell of a season. polanco is a career 300 hitter so you play him instead of infante. the fact is infante is a more talented player then polanco, but infante has to do it at the major league level.

i'm curious to see what leyland does with the lineup. guillen has hit 5 all year so i wonder if he'll leave him there? he has been known to put a power hitter like monroe or thames #2. could even put pudge 2, and monroe or young 3, or even magglio 3 and young or monroe cleanup, or even guillen 4th

I could have sworn they used Infante as the shortstop last year when Gullien went down. Also I see nothing special looking at Infantes stats. I mean he had one year where he played most of the season and it was nothing special. I think he has more power and maybe, maybe a little more speed, but besides that Polanco is the better overall player, period. If he wasnt, then Infante would be starting over Polanco. Simple as that really.

infante is only 24. he has more talent then polanco period. polanco however is a proven major leaguer wheras infante is not. infante has more then a little more speed. polanco is not fast. infante did play short last year as well as 2nd. leyland likes veteran players, so he plays a proven veteran like polanco, instead of a talented young infielder. if infante can develop plate discipline, he will challenge polanco for a job next year. you are looking at his stats from when he was 21,22, and 23. he needs time to develop into a major league player. polanco is 30 and didn't get a true chance to play everyday until he came to detroit

but chicago doesn't manufactor runs like they did last year. come playoff time you can't simply out slug teams. you're gonna have to get them on and drive them home without hitting homeruns
I'll agree with that statement when it's applied to a teams 1 & 2 starters, some teams #3 starter as well. You may see 1 hr per game in any given playoff game, the chances of seeing 2 hr's by one team is not nearly as high as it is during regular season.

Not true, hell I would take the first 4 years of Polanco over the first 4 years of Infante. If you look at his stats, Polanco has proven he can steal bases, matter of fact Infante in his longest season hasnt stolen more than Polanco in his longest season, so I dont know how that makes him so much faster. Also Polanco stated for St louis a long time ago and also with the Phillies, was an all star player with the phillies as well. I forget what year, but he was. So he isnt much more talented than Polanco. Polanco has had a hell of a career while Infante hasnt showed much of anything. You must need some glasses or something.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

wow what the **** are you talking about? polanco was never an all-star. polanco has stolen at most 14 bases in a season wheras infante has stolen 13 in fewer games. polanco before coming to detroit hasn't played more then 144 games, and before that played 126 and fewer. polanco batted 277 with 1 home run and 19 rbi's when he was 24. you my friend are the one who needs glasses

also polanco 10 homeruns and 77 rbi's first 4 years. infante 26 homeruns and 69 rbi's. also consider infante played on some bad teams were polanco played on some very good st. louis teams, and both had 19 steals. only think polanco had was a better batting average wich i'm not denying. once infante learns to hit off-speed and breaking pitches, he will be a great player.

tigers let one get away. way too many walks. leyland left verlander in there too long. should've pulled him after he walked cora. he walked 2 in a row, the 8 and 9 hitters, so why let him pitch to crisp with the bases loaded?

jesus christ wtf is happening to chicago? adam bernero former tiger //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif he showed some good stuff as a tiger. i believe he struck 10 or 12 one game as a tiger
