Tigers in mix to snag SorianoJul 21 - The Tigers remain in the thick of the race to acquire Soriano from the Nationals. But the two teams aren't close to completing a trade, according to a report in the Detroit News.

The paper reports that the Tigers turned down an offer that would've land Soriano in Detroit. In the proposed deal, the Nationals asked for prospects Humberto Sanchez and Jair Jurrjens, both right-handed pitchers, and outfielder Cameron Maybin. The Nats, in turn, turned down a counteroffer from the Tigers.

The paper also reports that the Mariners' interest in Soriano has faded due to Washington GM Jim Bowden's high asking price, which included 20-year-old center fielder Adam Jones. Seattle promoted Jones to the big club after the All-Star break and he has been the M's starting center fielder ever since.

Meanwhile, Newsday reports that the player Yankees owner George Steinbrenner prefers is Soriano, not Bobby Abreu.

The Nationals and Dodgers are also involved in serious talks involving Soriano, reports ESPN.com and Scouts Inc.'s Keith Law.

Law reports the Dodgers are making Joel Guzman, 21, available in a potential trade. Guzman, who played in the Futures Game in Pittsburgh, was a shortstop whom the Dodgers have converted to the outfield.
hmmm soriano could really make detroit into serious contenders....

verlander had a solid game. got behind some hitters but got a quality start. verlander could very well be a cy young candidate. 2nd in the league in era, and tied for first in wins. liriano is also another candidate.

well i didn't see snb and you talking shit like you were before. yes you own the series but that means shit when you are 5 games behind.

just downloaded command and conquer last night //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif i could play this game for days on end.

If you really want to talk about outscoring
OUTSCORING....means RUNS SCORED.... DUH

not UNDERSCORING

yeaaaa thats not gonna happen. I will say this...the sox offense have held them together this year...won a lot of 9th innin games this year on OFFENSE..not pitching like last year...and right now...its just not there. Thome just hit his first homerun tonight in the last 7 games. Konerko really hasnt been clutch at all. Uribe was hot for a few weeks, now he's Uribe again. Dye is still the shiznit. Pierzynski was battin like 32_? at allstar break..hes down to 30_? The only person doin well now is....Anderson. He's been gettin on every game a few times!!. And Podsednik....man, he just has stunk as a lead off.
