the tie breaker is a 1 game playoff //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif but i think since the looser would still have the wild card they would've gave the division to chicago

Not really, you said it's a 1 game playoff. It's only a 1 game playoff if the other team will not get the wild card. So currently there would be no playoff.

Detroit needs to make a trade for a good reliever. Smoltz is open to trades, don't know exactly what the Braves would be looking for, but it would be a good pick up, and I'm sure Smoltz would probably prefer the closer role.

The White Sox don't need any cushion. The white sox have been to the playoffs and won. Experience is a big factor in the playoffs regardless of whether you are the Wild card or not.
I'm sorry, what did you say?? If you remember it was a couple seasons ago that the White Sox had a great record and collapsed at the end and did NOT make the playoffs. Just last year when they won the world series they almost collapsed again to the Indians who were hot on their trail and the loser would NOT have been the wildcard either since the Yanks and the RedSox had that wrapped up.

So I would say they need a cushion if they want to win the Central as they've shown year in and year out they are NOT a good September team. But this is another year and thats why they play the game.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

plus smoltz is a detroit native //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

smoltz would be a good pickup cause can also start if one of the starters gets injured. detroit has a good bullpen. zumya and rodney are great, walker is agood leftie. they need another left hander in the bullpen and maybe a good left handed bat

The White Sox are not worried about the Yankees or Blue Jays (which will probably be contenders for the wild cards. The Yankees have no pitching. I'm suprised they are even doing as good as they are. Between Toronto, Boston, and New York........they will all beat up on each other and the Tigers and Sox will pull away, since there are no other good teams in there division. Even Baltimore and Tampa Bay are capable of stealing 1 or 2 games in a series against the East's 3 power houses. The playoffs come down to one thing, and that's pitching, if you don't have 3 good starters and a quality closer you are shit out of luck.

the tigers have 5 good starters and fernando rodney is gonna be the future closer of this team but for some reason is not now. also zumya has closer stuff. hopefully todd jones can settle down and maybe solidify the closer position

Todd Jones is Detroits closer, and he's had a few pitiful games. I certainly know if I was manager and my closer had a 6.75 era, that'd be a cause for concern. I think he's got 3 blown saves as well, which is not bad considering he has 19 sv's, but usually as hitters see you more chances they have to make adjustments. Just look at Mariano Rivera as a prime example. He was almost automatic against Boston for a few years, now he struggles to shut them down in key situations.

Uhhh, the Tigers have atleast 3 good starters. Oh and what the Sox starters did last post season was un heard of, the were lights out. Don't expect that to happen again though. I'm not saying they can't do it but to EXPECT them to pitch that well again is just crazy.

The Tigers have 1 good starter...and 2 potentially good starters. Too early to make assumptions on Bonderman and Verlander...although I'd say if Bonderman keeps pitching like he is, he'd be an ace on just about any other staff minus a Pedro, Santana and a few others.

bonderman will be an ace in the future. remember he is only 23. verlander will also be an ace in the future, and robertson has pitched well. he has to be one of the better 4th starters in the league. also maroth was pitching very well before he got injured. detroit has 3 good lefties in their rotation. also the same could've been said about chicago's rotation last year. who would've thought garland, buhrle (sp?), contreras, garcia etc would've been as good? this tigers team reminds me a lot of chicago last year. chicago was a mediocre team before last season. their pitchers were unproven and even cast offs.
