**The MLB Thread**

shit i live too far outside of detroit so i couldn't see it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif read an article that said mike illitch is gonna do whatever it takes to win

We were in 1st place. For a few hours. Tied is just as good being as we have the winning record over the Tigers.

the tie breaker is a 1 game playoff //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif but i think since the looser would still have the wild card they would've gave the division to chicago

That means absolutely NOTHING in baseball. Inner division record means absolutely nothing in baseball, only in football does it make any difference when crowning a division winner.

According to this info you are wrong. Edit: I should add the bottom part because in one case you are right.

When there is a tie for a Division Championship and the breaking of the tie will result in the losing team nonetheless being the Wild Card team, the Division Champion shall be:

* a. the team with the better record in head-to-head competition, or in the event the teams have the same record in head-to-head competition,

* b. the team with the better record, based on winning percentage in intradivisional competition, or, in the event the two teams have the same intradivisional winning percentages,

* c. the team with the better record in League competition over the last 81 games played by each team, or, in the event the two teams have the same records over this period,

* d. the team with the better record in League competition over the last 82 games, provided that the 82nd game was not a game between the tied teams.

When there is a tie for a Division Championship and the breaking of that tie will result in the losing team(s) not being the Wild Card team, the tie for the Division Championship shall be broken as follows:

* a. Tie between two teams. The League President shall conduct a coin flip to determine the site of a playoff game between the two teams, the game to be played the day after the conclusion of the championship season. The winner of the game shall be declared the Division Champion.

i think when it's all said and done chicago will prolly win the division, but detroit will be in the wild card mix
And so they should, being the defending world champs and all. They're a slightly better team than Detroit but right now they're not playing that much better than Detroit which is why the Tigers are still up 1/2 a game on them.

But make no mistake about it though. With every win the Tigers get the more they're getting used to winning and are starting to expect to win every time they step on the field. So by the time the 2nd half starts wearing along if the Sox don't create a big cushion between themselves and the Tigers the Tigers will be just as good as them at that point and the division will be up for grabs.

I stand 1/2 corrected then. But why talk about this in June??

Not really, you said it's a 1 game playoff. It's only a 1 game playoff if the other team will not get the wild card. So currently there would be no playoff.
