**The MLB Thread**

robertson only has the 9th best era in the al and zach miner has a 6-1 record in replace of maroth who was having a great season before he got injured
Lol....it takes more than a few starts or 1 year to say a pitcher is solid. Look no further than Jon Garland for a prime example.

same deal with chicago last year. the tigers only have the best record in baseball with a 62-29 record, so one would think you'd take them seriously. last year was last year. just like you said about the heat //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
The heat had a winning record. The heat took the Eastern Conference champs to the 7th game, with an injured star. Like I said, the Tigers win the up and coming series and they'll get some respect. Until then, they have a losing record against the Yankees and White Sox.

chicago has a loosing record against new york as well

You see, this is where you are seriously full of shit. Rogers and Bonderman are good pitchers as are Verlander and Robertson. They all have their weaknesses just like any other pitcher in the league. The main thing is for them to stay on top of things so their weaknesses don't get exposed. In my opinion the only question mark in the starting rotation is the Miner/Maroth situation. Who knows what Leyland will decide to do if Miner stays effective.
I'm full of shit? Just because a pitcher had a good first half, doesn't mean they can't go to shit in the 2nd half, or even next year. Again, Jon Garland....does that ring a bell? You are so quick to pencil in your pitchers. I never said Jon Garland was a good pitcher last year. I just said he was having a good season. Did you see Garland get used much in the playoffs last year? Kinda gave me an idea of what Ozzie thought about him.

You think teams aren't a little more geared up to try and beat the world series champs? I'd be willing to bet that teams go into Chicago a little more determined to beat the White Sox, than teams going into Detroit trying to beat a team that lost 91 games last year.

Well then he is not a solid pitcher which explains the struggles of the White Sox as of late. Well, you said it takes more than a year to be considered a solid starter. With that being said, then why do you assume Verlander will go to shit before NEXT year? He might have great rookie year (even through post season) and then struggle a little next year. Maybe?? I'm just saying that it may be rare for a rookie to do what he's doing but that doesn't make it impossible. I think this is more of a case of you WANTING him to faulter then a case of him going to shit.

Unless you play sports you don't understand. But when I was in high school and I pitched against a team that was ranked in the top 10, I tried a lot harder. When I went up against the #3 team in the nation, I think I brought a lot more intensity than I would in a normal game. This is what opposing teams are bringing to the White Sox, and in the 2nd half, this is what teams will start bringing against the Tigers.

that's fine by me. keep thinking that way and maybe detroit will make it to the world series

At the beginning of this season I would agree with that. But now that the 1st half of the season is in the books I would think teams would be gunning MORE for the team with the best record.

also take a look at last years team. they didn't have magglio or carlos guillen healthy the entire year. they didn't have polonco or granderson the whole season. they didn't have rogers who has helped more then just with his pitching. they also didn't have verlander or zumya. and last but not least they didn't have jim leyland. this is not the same team that lost 91 games last year

I never said he would go to shit. Again you pulling things out of context and inserting your own garbage. Since when is a 4+ ERA bad? Low 4's is pretty darn good, anything 5 and above is considered high. It's not that I think Verlander will go to shit, I just think he is going to get tired. He has never pitched this many innings before. When you get tired you tend to leave pitches up in the zone and your breaking pitches hang. What happens to those pitches? They get hit hard. Not to mention batters are still adjusting to Verlander, they haven't faced him that many times. Scouts probably have a lot more info on his tendencies now than they did before. No matter what you think, you have to believe that his arm is going to get tired eventually. The most innings he's pitched in a season is 130 I believe. So around the 150 or 160 mark, it's quite possible he'll start to get tired and could develop some bad habits.
