What are the benefits of blu ray over HD-DVD? I only was rooting for HD-DVD because it seemed like more of a standard name.

It was just studio support and storage.

lol i remember when i bought 3 HD-Dvd movies to watch on my ps3......then i found out that ps3 only supports blu rays so i wasted all that money. i was pretty pissed.

I think HD-DVD's capacity was at 15GB/single layer 30GB/dual layer, while Blu-Ray can do 150/200GB easily...

A dual-layer disc can hold 50GB.

To ensure that the Blu-ray Disc format is easily extendable (future-proof) it also includes support for multi-layer discs, which should allow the storage capacity to be increased to 100GB-200GB (25GB per layer) in the future simply by adding more layers to the discs.

Meh, this has been in the works for quite sometime. However I have both players. A Toshiba HD-DVD player and my PS3 Blu Ray.
