The old light bulb in the crossover network trick, companies still doing it after all these years. You would think for the price the caps in the crossover network would be of higher quality like Auricap Theta's, Hovland's, or at least Kimber Kaps.

LOL Thanks meng! When I had my CMX's installed, they were by far my favorite set of comps that I've owned. Just to share a thought on the non-Kick CMX's that I was using until just last week....

I was jammin' a track called 'Lounge Act' off of Nirvana's Nevermind CD last week, and I heard midbass sound reproduction that I've NEVER heard before...when the track first starts out with the bass riff, and it dips to its lowest point....I could actually hear the bass chord change in detail (if you've heard this song on a kicka$$ system, you know what I'm talking about).

I've had Focal, older MB Quart Q series, and Crystal SSCS6 comps, and NEVER heard that detail on any of those sets. But the CMX mids pick it up, and play it beautifully. You know you always read about people putting in new comps and then once they're tuned, that person says that they hear stuff in songs that they've been listening to for years, and never heard certain details until this or that set of comps....well, thanks to the CMX's, now I'M one of those people, too. I was VERY impressed with the power and the detail of the CMX's for the few weeks that I had mine.

Lounge Act is probably my favorite song out of all of their stuff....and I like a lot off of both Nevermind and Incesticide.

"Other less sophisticated passive crossover designs use automatic resetting capacitors, circuit breakers, or even small light bulbs that "soak the power" to make up for the lack of correct power transfer to the tweeters." From the 24db/octave CDT SATNET400 crossover network description.

Cheaper crossover designs use light bulbs to soak up (absorb) additional wattage being fed to the tweeter but they can also add distortion to the circuit. That is a pretty cheap crossover network for such highly acclaimed speakers. The first thing I would do is rebuild it with better parts.
