The extensive musical taste thread.

What a odd topic. You think of music in such a complex way. I just enjoy the music that I think sounds good that's about it. I listen anything from hip hop to punk/rock to breakbeats (not the techno stuff).
I was kind of just bored and felt like starting a strange topic //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Do you like any Drum and Bass type electronic stuff?

Techno, not really. I like some old Drumcode but other than that its noise.I DJ'ed Trance when I was like 15 or so, I don't really listen to that anymore either.

Drumnbass on the other hand I still listen to, produce, and DJ.
Favorite artists? I'm not very current on my DnB knowledge, nor have I ever been, but I do enjoy it.

Enduser, Plug, Raxyor (new album is pretty good), Pendulum, Phace (heard their new one yet?), Dieselboy, High Contrast, Evol Intent are some of the ones I listen to. Enduser is my favorite though, definitely, followed by Plug, but that's because Plug (Luke Vibert) is ****ing badass in his other stuff which is mostly IDM. DnB isn't really my genre though. I like it pretty well, but only know a handful or two of artists.

My musical tastes a widely varied and most of my friends just think I'm odd b/c of it.

One day I might be listening to metal of some sort.

The next day I might be listening to country (I'm a bit of a fan of Keith Urban....dude's just got a voice, man!)

The day after that I might very well be listening to Yanni off of my CD that has 7 of his albums burnt to .mp3

The day after that I might be listening to some old Motown or some classic jazz.

My frame of mind upon first getting up in the morning generally dictates what kind of music I'll be listening to that day.

It, like my mood, varies widely and changes frequently.

I like Faith Hill and some other random country stuff, occasionally. Can't stand it on the radio for more than maybe an hour a week though. Not that I actually will turn it on, but if it happens to be on nearby //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

And yeah, even my "tame" stuff none of my friends seem to like. That's why I keep a handful of classic rock CDs in my car to entertain people. They think I'm nuts listening to some of the stuff I do. A lot of it they are like, wtf is this, is it even music? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

My frame of mind sometimes plays a role, but usually it is week or two long stages. Like past 2 weeks have been black metal almost exclusively, but yesterday I listened to all Fennesz, Belong, Johann Johannson, and Helios for some reason. Then at night I went back to black metal again.

By the way, thanks Brock, you reminded me how much I like DnB so I'm listening to some Evol Intent right now. It's bad(***) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Nah I'm not into that drum and bass electronics stuff, a little too hardcore and straight into techno for me. I'll listen to stuff with no lyrics sometimes, especially bass cds like bass mekanik and billy-e I like that stuff, for bassing of course.

Pendulum is good live, although they're a bit on the cheesy side these days. Hold your Colour was a dope album, Girl in the Fire was a sick track...among others. Phace is, eh, whatever. I'm not a huge neuro fan so these days I tend to overlook (not purposely really) a lot of artists such as them judging by label pressing. I guess everyone else you mentioned kinda fits into that category these days, with the exception of High Contrast. His white labels have been tearing up the scene since 05 especially with that gold digger remix that dropped at wmc of 06. I'd like to make it to a Hospital event, but alas I live in the states and not the uk. DSB fell off and messianian makes me sick so i rarely catch any human events anymore.

Personally, I'm more of a Digitial Soundboy advocate. Shy FX, T Power, Marcus Visionary, Benny Page, Breakage (been a fan since he remixed that here come the drums track yeeeeears back when he was like 14), and so on. If you're curious of my dnb tastes go to my website and download the dj mixes....I haven't uploaded anything new for 2007 yet but you can expect a few new live sets after I hit the east coast for summer.

Too bad you dont live close to the midwest or east coast cause I could hook you up with therapy sessions stuff when they come through. A friend of mine owns Dylans (among others) clothing sponsor. Seems like they're along the lines of your darker tastes I guess you could say...

Pendulum often borders on too "poppy" for me, but otherwise I tend to enjoy them in small amounts.

What can you recommend from Digital Soundboy? I'll check out your website mix too, but no promises on getting back to you on it cause I have tons of stuff to listen to.

And yes, darker electronic, **** yes. Totally my thing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif Dylan you say? I'm all over it.

Helios / Goldmund / K. Kenniff FTMFW //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fro.gif.c695f1f814b01c4ad99fe7f8cccadd29.gif

Eingya was #14 I think, maybe #16, on my best of 2006 list last year. Rad.

Yes, but their creativity level is way up there. Mucho respect to those guys.

Just go to http://www.digitalsoundboy.com and snoop around. Download Shy FX's Essential Mix and the Podcast. Get anything from Breakage...look for Breakage - This Too Shall Pass on whatever you use to download music from. Its a double disc, really dope.

Dylan owns Freak Recordings, look there. And search for Faith in Chaos - Possession...its him and his wife, sick track.

Dieselboy to Diana Krall to Herbie Hancock to Etta James to The Four Tops to Cypress Hill to Rascal Flats to Johnny Cash to Louis Armstrong to Frank Sinatra to Marilyn Manson to Children of Bodom to Mnemic to.....

Morgan

1. 3. No shit, musical taste is a personal preference. Some people have good taste, some have bad. But anyway, this thread is also about having a broad taste, not just good taste.

Dumb shit, you saying people have bad or good taste is based on what? YOUR OPINION! If I say you have bad taste. THat's my opinion. WHich is what you are saying. God, kids need to stop dropping out of school for real. I'm done with this thread ha what a joke

Promise? I'm about sick of your presence here myself.
Yeah, I'm a kid, and I dropped out of school and didn't go to college. Don't hate.

Yes you are right, if I say "you have bad taste" that is my personal opinion, but of course it isn't as simple as "I like this" or "I don't like this" because my opinion would be based on a wide variety of things such as variation and depth in genre, popularity of artists, timespan, etc, so it is not just merely "an opinion" and it still merits discussion. But this thread is not for people to post what they listen to just so I can say if their taste is good or bad. This thread is for discussion, and while I may offer my opinion, the discussion itself will decide who has the broadest taste.

Bye.

Edit: Hah, actually you are wrong. I reread what you said, which was: "based on what? YOUR OPINION". Wrong again big guy. The basis of my opinion is not my opinion, it is what they listen to. "His taste is good" is my opinion, it is not a statement based on my opinion, it is my opinion based on his taste. If you don't understand this, which I'm sure you don't, maybe your mother will explain it to you when I am done with her.

(Ok that last part was immature and unnecessary, but still funny (to me).)
