Inspired by the thread about how much music is on your computer, I bring to you this new and pointless thread.

I will begin the discussion by proposing in the most arrogant and elitist fashion possible that I have the most diverse and extensive musical taste on this forum. I will give no evidence or information to back that claim until the discussion gets going first.

Anyone think they listen to a lot of different music or have especially good taste? Post about it, and we will see.

Let's start with this. Almost everyone who regards all metal as bad or stupid, has bad and/or narrow musical taste. This can be nullified with a particularly broad or deep knowledge of some other genres, but hip-hop, rock, and pop are not among those genres.

Anyone who refuses to listen to music with:

A) no lyrics

or

B) no intelligible lyrics

has bad and/or narrow musical taste.

it doesnt matter what you think of others taste in music, as long as THEY enjoy it. personally, i cant stand half the gay *** indie rap ppl post about being SOOOO good. alot of radio hits, i like and get heavy rotation in my music player. as far as rap goes, if it wasnt for the bass, i probably wouldnt even listen to it...

Ummm Buffalo, for you to say that everyone's musical taste should be based on your own opinion is a very immature and ignorant statement. This thread should be closed due to downright stupidity. Being Latino, I listen to Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, and some people who don't know spanish tell me to turn it off because it sucks. That's their opinion. Some people hate Reggae, but talk to a Jamaican who has grown up in that culture and he/she will be moved greatly when a favorite reggae song plays. It's a personal preference. /thread

1. I didn't say their taste will be based on my opinion. I said we can discuss and find out in this thread.

2. Thanks for that tidbit about reggae and spanish music. Even though I don't see what it has to do with anything in this thread.

3. No shit, musical taste is a personal preference. Some people have good taste, some have bad. But anyway, this thread is also about having a broad taste, not just good taste.

4. If you are embarassed because you only listen to spanish music and therefore have incredibly narrow and boring taste, feel free to not post in this thread and embarass yourself further.

5. There is nothing wrong with spanish music. It adds some unique flavor to a musical question and some of it is pretty interesting and original. But listening to only that = you lose.

Most metal sucks...but that in no way negates the fact that I have a broad taste in music as well. I don't think anyone on this forum who knows me will disagree with that.

What constitutes meaning in actuality? Does anything have "meaning in actuality"? Maybe you could start a philosophy thread for that discussion. But no, I don't think this conversation is for kids, though that seems to be the reading/typing level of a good chunk of this board.

I never said not liking metal means you can't have a broad musical taste. But I did say this: "This can be nullified with a particularly broad or deep knowledge of some other genres", which you claim to have, and I won't dispute that claim unless you give me a reason to.

What a odd topic. You think of music in such a complex way. I just enjoy the music that I think sounds good that's about it. I listen anything from hip hop to punk/rock to breakbeats (not the techno stuff).

Techno, not really. I like some old Drumcode but other than that its noise.

I DJ'ed Trance when I was like 15 or so, I don't really listen to that anymore either.

Drumnbass on the other hand I still listen to, produce, and DJ.
