My suggestion to you is to go big the first time because you'll always want to upgrade. It's not worth it to buy mediocre equipment only to resell and lose money after hearing a superior system. Save up and check in the classified for great equipment for cheap. jmanpc linked you to a great complete system for the money. My vote goes to that. He covered just about everything - HU, wiring, subs, comps, amps. Budget about $100 for the box and any nick-nack install parts.

Have a look at Mach5's subs, as well. They're out of Canada, so shipping will be a little more (about $40 for two 10's). You get to choose whether or not you want them to do a burn-in and select free mounting hardware as well. Two 10's (250w RMS - I verified this with M5A's owner via email) with burn-in and hardware is about $112 shipped.
