The Best Albums of 2008

Just about forgot about God Is an Astronaut. Absolutely great post-rock album.

Personally, I thought 2007 was better.

Colors is probably the best "metal" album I've ever heard....or at least one of the best.

you guys should check out all those bands really 08 had a lot of good music and thankfully i saw a bunch of the bands live

some killer debut albums

Eagles of Death Metal are really over looked awesome rock that keeps ya dancing

can't wait this year will be the return of shoegaze...

My Bloody Valentine

Asobi Seksu

Autolux

Silversun Pickups

gonna be good !

I'm surprised to see Girl Talk on here.... I kinda feel weird bumpin that shit sometimes
hahaha i always get weird looks because one day ill have like girl talk and daft punk and stuff on, then others ill have BTBAM and all shall perish on, good to mix it up.

I'm going to have to disagree on Portishead. I thought their new album was a withdrawl from their more melodic prior advances. I deleted it from my mp3 archive.

Im surprised no one mentioned Sia //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

I highly recommend this if you even remotely like Zero 7....she used to be the singer for them.

I'm going to have to disagree with TV on the Radio. I haven't really listned to their music, but I saw them play on TV (ironically), and it was probably the worst thing I've ever seen. And that includes Bjork.

I find her style of music very different from Zero 7. I just don't quite like it as much.

I guess that says it all, doesn't it?

I listen to lots of music that I don't like initially. If you've given something a chance several times and it's still not for you, then there's nothing to be done about that. But I always try to listen to an album 3+ times all the way through before I decide if it is good or not. Some albums are not as "accessible" (usually because they're different), but that doesn't mean that the musicianship or music as a whole is bad.

I didn't have time or the desire to include every album I listened to. I agree on Crystal Castles, Foals, and No Age....Cut Copy was ok.
Here's actually a list of the albums I had narrowed it down to:

Portishead - Third

Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes/Sun Giant

TV ON the Radio - Dear Science

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

Vampire Weekend - VAmpire Weekend

MGMT - Oracular Spectacular

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Dig Lazarus Dig

Santogold - Santogold

Deerhunter - Microcastle or Weird Era Cont

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III

Glasvegas - Glasvegas

Sigur Ros - med sud i eyrum vid spilum endlaust

Kings of Leon - Only by the Night

Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours

Hot Chip - MAde in the Dark

No Age - Nouns

Foals - Antidotes

M83 - Saturdays=Youth

Coldplay - Viva La Vida or Death and All HIs Friends

The Hold Steady - Stay Positive

The Bug - London Zoo

Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles

Lykke Li - Youth Novels

Death Cab for Cutie - Narrow Stairs

Girl Talk - Feed the Animals

British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music?

of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping

Metronomy - Nights Out

Kanye West - 808s and Heartbreak

Friendly Fires - Friendly Fires

Common - Universal Mind Control

The Magnetic Fields - Distortion

The Mars Volta - The Bedlam in Goliath

Bullet for My Valentine - Scream, Aim, Fire

In Flames - A Sense of Purpose

The Killers - Day and Age

Black Kids - Partie Traumatic

Ludacris - Theater of the Mind
Honestly i didnt think ludas new album was good at all, i liked two or three songs. Nothing light red light district and chicken & beer, where i could actually enjoying listening to the whole cd. seems to me hes turning into that main stream crap, just like snoop, E-40 and busta.

I'm pretty open minded when it comes to music, but I can almost always tell right away if I'm going to like someone. I know those guys get a ton or critical acclaim, but I just didn't see why. They had to have been the messiest most ridiculous act I've ever seen. Granted, much of that may have been due to the system they were playing on, or they may have had technical difficulties (IIRC, this was on Saturday Night Live). However, I just don't see how SNL's sound system could have crapped them up that bad. That's not to say I won't give them a chance if I get in a downloading mood one of these days, but my expecations won't be very high.
