The beloved W7...

i didnt even bother going to that page, i saw the quotes, and if somone can claim that an amplifier is responsable for the speaker being punchy, they are completly retarded. that my friend, relies STRICTLY on the box the speaker is in.

and him saying that the 'distortion' got the best of the w7, that is strictly the amplifiers problem. the sub only plays what the amp sends to it. sounds like he needs to turn the gain down and level match it to the preout voltage.

simply just moronic comments. the w7 is a well respected sql subwoofer. i heard two 13w7's on a pair of 1000.1's yesterday in a jl designed box playing rock music, and IMO - it got a little sloppy on the kickdrums, but i mean its a pair of ~13" subs with high excursion surrounds.

if you want a sq sub, take a look at the w6.

If the guy is a certified W7 and JL certified installer 240.00 is about cost on those. There is so much mark up in car audio. I agree he sounded somewhat stupid, but many installers get paid more to push certain lines based on amount of commision each manufacturer sets for sales spiffs and such. JL has long since been a company that does not sell cheap and product quality stands alone for them. You will never see a JL in a Best Buy. I am not even a JL fan. Its all relative anyway, no one persons ear or taste will match another ever.

I've only had the extreme pleasure of hearing the 13W7 in action on one occasion. It was back in May at the SEMA show in Atlantic City. I don't know the wattage being thrown at them or the type of enclosure but the guy had two of them in the trunk of his Lexus. It was loud as hell but it was clean and VERY punchy. The trunk lid was flexing like crazy.

I thought his setup sounded incredible. I would buy one in a heartbeat if they were only $240. $750 is too pricey for my blood.

A guy commented on the review

i thought this was funny

This statement is also funny:quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As it is moving forward and back, the lesser woofers have already moved forward and back and average of 2 to 3 times. Also keep in mind that force by which the speakers move the air is almost the same. The lesser woofers also take up the same space as the w7 and are more efficent with power. One final note, if a speaker cannot rebound fast enough (like the w7) then it cannot articulate bass well enough to be considered an SQ sub.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So the average driver moved back and forth 3 times in the same period of time? Interesting. Especially since that means they'd be reproducing a frequency 3 times as high as the W7 (remember 30Hz = 30 cycles (woofer moving back and forth 30 times). If we have 3 times the number of movements, then we have 90 cycles, or 90Hz. Twice as far, 60 cycles or 60Hz.

sound to me like they dont know how to build vented boxes, a vented box tuned right can even make the shittyest sub sound half decent

"they bottomed out on low notes"

that doesn't sound right at all

only JL's i've seen were hittin low and really loud

those people seriously are fullof shit

when those w7"s first came out i saw 1 12"w7 hit 148db at a SQ tuning and 1000watts
