Think people are getting the wrong idea.. This wasnt exactly going to be a challenge for everyone or a competition, just a personal goal. And I wanted to solidify it and offer tried-and-true plans for people looking for a decent setup/price within this range.
If you want to do a fair challenge, you must meet similar criteria:
1) $150 Limit including amp, woofer, box. (Perhaps a more fair thing to do is $100 limit on woofer and box. Since theoretically, every one will be using a 200w@4ohm amp to do the same thing. Reguardless of price, performance should be very similar)
2) Box must be ~1.5cubes or smaller gross.
3) 200w RMS max.
4) Score is 45hz or less.
5) Must produce 35hz within a respectable limit to 45hz. (i.e. 35hz SPL is no more than 6db less than 45) To try and thwart any complete fart-box attempts as this was built with the daily driver in mind.
6) List setup configuration.
-1) Woofer, amp, box specs.
-2) Score @ frequency, then 35hz score.
-3) Setup configuration and car. (Hopefully we can gain experience here)
For example
----------------------------------
1) MCM 8" Woofer. 200w from Kenwood XXX @ 4ohm, 1.2cubes @ 33hz.
2) 131db @ 42hz, 126 @ 35hz.
3) Ported enclosure, sub-up port side in a hatchback vehicle.
