Test bench for your home?

I want to start learning how to make boxes a bit more and I want to set up a test bench in my basement to fire up the subs before I take them out to the car (its cold here right now) so is there a cheap and easy way to set up the needed voltage for a spare amp so I can plug in subs and test them?

I just have a battery and an old, cheap pyramid amp in the garage. works fine for my purposes.

How long does the battery last before you have to recharge it? Also, how do you recharge it? I don't have a battery charger.

It's a pretty small amp, and I usually dont test for too long. The battery has lasted about 15 minutes no problem. I have a battery charger, though.

That looks like what I need. I like the battery idea, but I would have to buy a charger and this would cost less in the end.

How many amps should I be looking for, or does it matter?

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? If you are only looking to test subs, you really don't need a lot of power and could get by with a small 4ohm plate amp from Parts Express. They also carry the Pyramid power supplies. If you can find a small home amp that will work at the impedance that you need, that is a really simple way to go as well.

Basically after I install a sub into a box I just want to run some power through it to hear it. So I would want it to play a low freq. so I can listen to it move.

The home stereo idea is most likely good enough as well and I'm sure I have some laying around here.
