tc sounds lms 5400 old vs new

Can anyone tell me why the old power handling on the lms 5400 was 5000wrms and now it is 2000w? from my knowledge the only differences are a lighter basket, larger spiders and heavier cone for the new one. seems to me like it would handle the same levels of power. is this just how they rate it or is there more to this?

i'm looking to run 8000w to 2 of them and hope the new ones could handle this

also, optimal enclosure ported for the new one is a good cubic foot less than the old. the qts isnt that much lower on it and bl is roughly the same as well as fs and mms, why is there such a discrepency?

The new version also utilizes an aluminum voice coil former to reduce eddy current. I noticed no difference from new to old after the recone.

hmm maybe i'll try running 3. f-ing price tag though. how can i not find anyone selling used ones anywhere? i guess a resonable person would just turn down the gains

i've got the psi recone of this sub but i don't feel like the lows are there since it's missing the lms coil. it's definitely more efficient and takes a lot more power though. huge gap allowed for a massive 8 layer 4"

**** is it the coil that gives out? i model them in winisd and it predicts the woofer wont reach xmax in a ported box at 6 cubes tuned to 30hz until around 21hz.

Yes i believe the coil is round instead of flat, its copper not aluminum etc....and i cant remember if its 4 or 8 layer.......That all adds up to lower power handling capabilities.

I wouldn't put more than 3k on one.....i've seen a lot on the forums over the years give out
They're not spl woofers at all, they don't need that much power
Truth. If you want to throw massive amounts of power at these for a long period of time they wont like it.

copper theoretically dissipates heat better, but i think it can expand and warp with high heat. and it's not a very efficient woofer for its size so i figured it would eat up power but i suppose not.

New FTL...had one and in 6.0 cubes @ 31hz it got stinky on a Sundown 2000D @ 1ohm......shrunk the box down to 4.5 @ 28hz and it did much better on a Lanzar Opti6K @ 1ohm....PSI can make those things MONSTERS that's for sure!

It does, if I could find a 5400 motor anywhere IDE get another psi! I think the lows aren't as clear or loud on the psi though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
