TC Ftl???

Not the easiest to reattach a top plate once things are magnetized. You need to be careful and make a nice long gage to slide things back into place while the glue dries. (pinching fingers between a top plate and a stack of charged magnets is less than fun) You wont have much of a choice recentering the "top assembly" either as you are relying on the 6 mounting screws to the top plate and not the soft parts around the pole piece. But, considering the gaps are normally a little on the larger side it should be good.

i am machining a shim on the lathe to use when i glue the top plate back on.

and luckily the tapped holes go all the way through the top plate so i am using some bolts to keep the top plate from crushing my fingers when i put it back on.

now i just have to figure out what glue to use.

it just fell out like that while playing music or wut?
well it didn't fall off, but the top plate came unglued so it locked up the voice coil and i am forced to do something about it.

is your computer desk in your garage?
i just took those pictures at work.

and luckily my room isn't this dirty... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

sucks man. i am sure they will take care of ya!
well they told the original owner that it was probably caused from abuse...

i bought it from him and decided to just fix it myself.

one way or another it will be a working sub again...

can you say POS? the topplate should be bound to the permant magnets with enough force not to just fall off... i bet that motor has/had a poor magnetization and it doesn't spec out.. nothing uncommon @ TC..

My original subwoofer. How hard was it to get the ring off joseph? They basically told me it was my fault and I would have to pay to get it fixed, I only had the driver for a few months and it broke on me twice. So no they wouldn't take care of me. I'll be by later. Not to mention the screws that mounted the basket to the motor wasn't even tightened, joseph managed to get it off without even ripping the cone off.

Its good that the threads go through the top plate. You can run screws through an extra half inch, center the top plate on the magnet and then ease the plate down by unscrewing them. Should be simple and painless.

Any standard magnet glue will work for bonding the TP to the magnet.

Good luck!

Just go pick up some 2 part 5 minute epoxy from Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart... mix it up good and apply. Then after you back your finger saver screws out, go ahead and giv it a couple of twists to make sure the glue settles in smooth and flat.

actually glue shouldn't soley be "holding the motor together" as the force from the magnets should be plenty strong to hold the topplate and back plate together.... have you ever tried to pull a topplate off a magnetized motor? i say get that sub tested.. might not even be fully magnetized... and you might want to use a high temp glue too...

At first I was told I have blown the driver from over-driving it, then I told this person that I was running 800wrms (the opt rms for this driver), then he said that was too much and I told him that was the rated power for this driver and he had to go check, then he told me that it could of been blown from underpowering or overpowering. He then told me the voice coil froze to the magnet causing it to freeze and would not be covered by warranty (At this point I did not know the top section of the motor shifted). He said I could send it in if I want and they can take a look at it and they were "honest people, and would tell me if it was in fact there fault if it was the driver itself that was the issue". At this point I did not want to go through the hassle of paying all the shipping/handling cost. Only a few months of owning this driver, 2nd time an issue has occured. Needless to say I was not happy with the person I spoke with on the phone or the service. So joseph decided to mess with the driver (by now its probably not warrantied anymore because its been taken apart). Thus founding out what was the problem.
