Taxing pot could become a political toking point

Arnie would veto it.

But what if some smartass cop pulls you in for suspicion when you weren't high. Then they test you and find a trace amount in your system that could be from a week ago. Is that right?

OK, but the tests have to exist BEFORE its legalized to prevent abuse.
Did we have ways of measuring BAC before we started making laws against drunk driving?

You are never going to get it legalized by saying "We'll develop what you want after you agree to legalize it." There are people working on this testing already, because the demand from the millions of cannabis smokers who want it to be legalized requires it. Things will be improved once Obama convinces the DEA, FDA, and ONDCP to being so restrictive in scientific testing.

I don't think anyone is really striving to make a test because there is no market for a test to measure the amount in you at the moment. Once there is a market, then trust me people will be striving to be the first to develop it.
If there was a way to effectively test active amounts of thc in a person to judge impairment, guaranteed every police station in the country would have one to help them in prosecutions...there is already a market

Not sure, I will have to research that. I don't think the cannabis climate is the same, though, so I'm more skeptical as to the willingness of politicians to do that.

lets see how much the population goes up in Cali, when this happends, IF it happens //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I say we fence off California once all the hippies that don't already live there, move there.

So your argument is we did it in the past so we should do it in the present? We have never fukd up in the past?
Just saying it's not a huge deal...people already abuse it, what's wrong with legalizing it now and we'll figure out a way to test eventually. I think its safe to say if you're swerving and can't talk straight you're too high to be driving, similar to the way we have field sobriety tests.

FTW if we take advantage of it properly

Its not a huge deal? You are ok with every person who smokes pot yesterday, but gets pulled over today getting convicted on some cops estimation of their impairment? Are you high right now? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

dog, if they were gonna get pulled over they'd get pulled over whether its legal or not, and arrested for it whether its legal or not, no? The only difference is the ones that aren't noticeably high or who the cop doesn't think are too high don't get in trouble, because it's legal.

It will not impair you for 2 days. So no worries about that. Take a hour nap and you'll wake up sober.
Unlike alcohol were I slept for 5hrs and woke up feeling just like I did when I went to sleep.
Ok, so replace my timeframes above with yours, does it change the question any?

We had cars before the civil war. The first dui law was enacted in 1910 in New York. I think they could let things go just as they are as far as weed and driving till they found a good test.

Or tons of people get pulled over and start throwing a fit in court, suddenly the courts are filled with whining hippies saying they weren't high at the time....people get tired of it, and weed is again made illegal to squash the duid enforcement issues...

Maybe I am high cuz I'm not following your arguement, why would 'tons of people get pulled over' due to weed being legal?

Cops suspicion of driving while high maybe?

To jump into action with no clear plan and saying we will catch the details along the way is alot like going to Iraq for the wmd's in a hurry...sometimes that line of thinking just doesn't pay
