Tarnished Magnet?

I just pulled out my subs from my sealed box to try and mount them inverted, but when I pulled them out the once shiny chrome magnets were now tarnished and had this faded color to them. THere are also finger prints all over the magnet. I have only had these subs for about a month now and am really wondering what the hell happened. I think the oil or something from my fingers got burned into the chrome somehow. Anyways, I tried to get this off with goo gone, chrome polish, car polish, and paint thinner so far. The car polish worked the best but it took a bout 5 minutes to get one tiny part back to normal. Has anyone ever heard of this happening or know how to get rid of it?

i was polishing something chrome the other day...and my mom told me to use ketchup...

she said let it sit for about 1/2 hour before rubbing it off and the acid eats the tarnish.

i didn't try it...but its what my grandma does, and grandmas are pretty wise

The same thing happened to my Ti, I took it out the other day for the first time in like two months and noticed it was all tarnished and shit, I about flipped. I thin it was the weather that did it to mine...

Chances are those subs are Zinc plated;

You mentioned fingerprints; The discoloration is more intense near the fingerprints, right? The oils of your skin cause a reaction after time; That's why people collect "proof" coins - a "proof" coin hasn't been touched; If you've ever gotten your hands on one, you'll notice a blue discoloration after you touch it; ultimately leading to a dirty *** nickle.
