Man have i fallen behind on this thread
Lemans, you know the story by now. Someone pitted an SX against the ever-so-loved Alpine Type R, the Type R posted an insignificantly higher number that wouldn't effect a daily driver in any way, now everyone thinks the SX is some mediocre half sub and not the little brother to the XXX like it really is.
After that certain people think "Gee, I have SXs already on the way! Defying all logic and the incredible number of good reviews - I will mentally list them in the '****' category of subwoofers!!". Not expecting much, they don't put the effort to do a decent install, so the SX ends up sounding like shit, and they post shady reviews.
Watch it happen again with the next forum boner against an otherwise loved sub here on ca.com.
Insignificant? Hardly. I tried my d*mndest to make the SX work. It just crapped out on the power i had going to it while the type-r took it on MUSIC. Not to mention that i did this test BEFORE the whole type-r hype (hence my user title). In fact, i think my test results STARTED the type-r boner.
It doesn't matter where the number comes from, just one success was all that was needed.
We've done MANY more comparison tests //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif My test just started a barrage of tests against other subs
i believe the difference with a 15" type r and an sx are only 60 bucks different... 290sx 230 for type r... better than one another? eh, i would say they are pretty equal... money shouldn't matter in which sub performs better... LOGICALLY and economically, the type R would be a better choice because it's the same quality for a lower price... but i don't think one is better than the other other than price... but in the end, what does it matter?
people like what they like... if someone likes how the sx looks over the R, they'll most likely get it... Not everyone is trying to find a competition sub to throw 2500 watts at like spkrman... IMO, if you power each sub with their rated power, they'll perform equally.. one driver is NOT better than another just because you can abuse it more...
use them both correctly and they are pretty equal...
The prices for the 15's are similar, but the 10's and 12's are MUCH cheaper. I paid $100 shipped for a brand new type-r, a 10" SX is gonna cost $260 shipped. The 15" type-r HAS to be more expensive because it actually has a bigger motor and coil than the 10" and 12" versions, while the SX uses the same coil and motor for all the sizes.
I know someone that did a 153.x last year at drag finals in a street class...with guess what...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif And no, it wasn't a Type R.
You may or may not know him...he likes little boys, and loves Type R's.
I gots an idea...you Type R boys want SPL....throw away the SX and git yourself an MT...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Throw a sub 40 hz note at an MT and see what kind of score it puts up. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
i never said the sx was better... and i have used a type r... and i didn't see much of a difference... probably because i wasn't sticking an orion 2500 on each coil //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif
How about a nine.1 per sub? Not to mention the type-r LOVED the power i fed it when i had both amps on it (each nine.1 at .5 ohm nominal) and the SX couldn't even get a burp off.
Basically, the SX got its *** kicked in many installs. I don't know how to make it any clearer. Alot of the bashing comes from people who have ZERO experience with it, or simply hate it because 1) it's the new forum boner, 2) they own the sub that the type-r beat, 3)they support/push the company that the type-r beat. People just have to do testing of their own rather than just bash shit for no reason. BTW, dB drag is overrated. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif "Hmm, lets see how much cone area we can cram in our class, then throw as MUCH POWER AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE and see what it can do!!!" Step into MECA's realm and try to do that score on a 50 amp fuse. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
