sorry cv fan .........dude, an amp can get full power at minimum gain. that will not control distortion or efficiency, its only going to adjust input sensitivity to the headunits output

Only way your getting full ouput out of an amp at minumum gain in most cases is to turn up every preamp signal you have in your path all the way up, even then, it's going to be iffy. My horns are running at minimum gain on 100 watt amp and if I was "still" getting max power from my amp they'd rip my ears off every time I got into my car. Thankfully gains CAN and DO act as a volume knob, just not in the traditional sense. Volume knob controls input voltage, gain controls the magnitude of increase given a set input voltage. Essentially the same thing. Like it or not, having too powerful an amp is BS excuse lol, but if he doesn't want it that's up to him.

Turn the subwoofer output down on the HU, keep gains low and you can run just about any amp off of any subwoofer.
