Sundown E-12D4-V2 or Rockford Fosgate P2D2-12? Any better subs you guys recommend?

Number of subs preferred: Doesn't matter

Size preferred (if configuration allows): 12" minimum

Budget: Doesn't really matter but don't want to spend too much unless there's a significant difference

between that and the subs I'm looking at (below)

Power to be used (which amp(s), include which resistance): Alpine PDX-V9 (I believe this is either 2 or 4 ohms...... 500 RMS max

Space available (take measurements, do not guess): I'm in class right now but I assume this is going to be just 1 12" in a ported box.. there should be enough room as I already put in a very big ported box in my trunk.

Goals: Umm idk? Strong, loud pounding from bass? It's only 500 RMS so I'm not sure. Ported box

Listening habits: Rap/Rock but I usually listen mostly to rap in car

Preferred brands/subs/whatever: So the two subs I was looking at are Sundown E-12D4 V2 (E-12D4 V2 - Sundown Audio 12" 500W RMS Dual 4-Ohm E Series Subwoofer) and the Rockford P2D2 (Rockford Fosgate P2D2-12 Punch P2 12" subwoofer with dual 2-ohm voice coils at Crutchfield.com).

I've been advised that the Sundown above is a better sub. Would you guys agree?

Also, any other recommendations for any subs that are better?

So you do think that the Sundown ($119 I think) above is better than the Rockford ($97 or so on Amazon)?

I wouldn't be opposed to spending some more money on another sub at all if it meant a getting a significant upgrade (over Sundown/Rockford.... whichever you guys think is better)

U can take a chance and get the sundown e12d4 v2 for 60.00 shipped and try it it out, I did that and mine sounds great

U also May get louder with the sundown, they usually can do over rated and the e12d4 v.2 can do 500wrms while the Rockford does 400wrms

Keep in mind the p2d2 is dvc so u can only do 4ohms on that one and on the e12d4 u can do 2ohm so more power on the sundown, since ur amp is a 2 or 4 ohm stable on the 5th ch and u r not bridging then I'd go with a 4ohm dvc

Oh okay thanks. I didn't realize the 4ohm could be wired as 2 ohm. Can you tell I'm new lol

Yes it did, had very minor cosmetics but u can't really see it and does not affect the performance

Gotcha. I was trying to look for a ported box that would work but was told I should/need to go custom. I was thinking of getting one made from Klaus Audio but I'm lost, even in the customization lol. Thanks for your help and that link man

Yeah I would go with custom too on the sundown website it shows what the best specs are for a ported and even has a sketch up of it giving u all the dimensions, so if u have it custom built they may go Off of those specs which make it easier lol

The price looks tantalizing but after shipping and proper number adjustments, things get costly.


i'd say hit up @CSCStang he'll build and ship you a nice birch box at a good price.

Alright thanks for the info man. He actually sent me a PM I think and I'm going to contact him soon. Have you ever had a box built by him? Or is he just known on these forums to do good, quality work? thank
