sundown/DC vs 2012 type r

As a previous owner of type r's I cant tell you.......

1. yes the type r's will get loud in the right box

2. they will sound like garbage in ANY box

3. the cone will come off if they get pushed in the summer time

4. you will most likely be happier with Sa's or Dc's. I've heard good things about xfl's but no experience

with them at all so I cant tell you one way or another. But if these guys are suggesting them then you

should probably look into them.

I owned a pair of type r's and I thought they were the business until I heard a pair of sa-12's. I never really realized how horrible my system sounded till i started looking into car audio. I was one of those guys who thought the farther away people could hear me the better. Turns out you could hear the rattle before you could hear the bass. If your going to build a spl set up for competing or for simply chasing numbers then do a lot of homework and listen to the advice you get on here. Check the sticky's......lots of good info. Most of the people here know what they are doing and will not steer you in the wrong direction.

First thing I would do is find a number that you would like to hit.

Is it going to be only an spl monster or is it going to be your daily as well. It is possible to have a good balance of spl AND sql.

Sit down and figure out how much you realistically have to to spend on your build.

Be patient. Unless you have a ton of money to throw at it and are surrounded by experienced people then it wont happen over night.

The more you learn before starting your build will make it easier and cheaper.

This review may be irrelevant today since the type-rs have been updated twice in the last two years. Clearly, Alpine put a lot of thought into getting good SQ and SPL out of them. The Sundown SA subwoofers are certainly very good ones too.

I would say one should go by the specifics of the install. I'd say SA is better for ported and Alpine Type-R for sealed. Based on EBP, Sundown seems to be more geared towards ported box install, while Alpine is closer to a sealed ideal. Alpine seems to have better efficiency too.

TYPE R FTW. It's all in the box brah, know what i'm sayin?! Drop like it's hawt!!!
To me brah, type r is errwhere. Best bang fo da buck, know what i'm saying! youtube don't lie eitha, mo vids than da rest homie. Peace outside! Keep it gangsta brah!
Make you say ugh!!!! Na Na Na Na
Aight mane! Grillz on my chizzlez.
Are you attempting to troll or do you legit have an extra chromosome?

A guy 3 blocks down the road is running two 5th generation type r d4's with a DD m1c in a shop built box. You can wrap garbage in a pretty box with a bow on top. Its still garbage.

I agree. Hell I would of bought one if it would of made a difference. After 6k my setup doesn't get any louder..lulz
Yep, I got 2 myself. haven't had time to play with them yet since I'm deployed but I got'em. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
