Suggestions on door pods

Okay I want to get into fiberglassing and for my first project I am gonna attempt to make some door pods.

I can't do kicks because there is no room in my car, plus I want to use the stock tweet locations and then just come out a bit from the stock 5x7 location and put in some 6.5's in pods. Here is a pic of my door.

I'll try to get in paint when I get back to modify the pic to show you what I'm thinking, and I think it would be relatively simple, but I have to leave now.

I just want to see what some of you experienced guys would do. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

id say just make plates for the stock locations to modify the opening for your 6.5" speaker...that would be easier and much cleaner looking if you have never done glassing before.

honestly I'd leave well enuff alone and just install the components in the stock locations and skip the glassin cause a volcano would look out of place on your door
Can't, I want 6.5's and they are 5x7's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I was thinking pretty much the same as req. But I was gonna try to make it so that the "volcanoe" type thing would come up to the point and then taper off downward and paint it black. I think it would actually look pretty good that way.

That's a horrible representation of what I was thinking... But I think you can get the idea...

we just did 6.5 comps in a car with that door panel, just use abs plastic and make a plate for your 6.5 and it will fit where your stock 5x7 was...might need to do a little metal grinding/cutting

hell I made a RE8 fit sealed in where my stock 6x9's were in my stealth WITH no modification to the OEM panel

on a side note bhsswrstlr how'd you manage a 169 outlaw? mere was that mic at?

Im pretty sure 5x7 ~ 6.5 roughly. Because a 5x7 is just about a 6x9. And I'm pretty positive that you will be able to fit that 6.5 in there. U might have to replace the grill because that spot seems a little shallow but Im sure it will fit. Just a little bit of work. Baffles, cutting, screwing, etc.

yep. but he said he wanted it sealed. if he can fiberglass inside that thing (onto a thin 1\4" piece of wood that is mounted to the factory screw holes) and then pull out a baffle, and resin it up, he could get some XXX6.5s to fit if he wanted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

but depending on your 'comps' - if that is a tarus (iirc, i think it is) you shouldnt have a problem fitting 6.5's with a little baffle work.

I was wanting to do XXX's to go with my sub... But I'm hesitant because I have never done any glassing before. O well, I can always re-do it if I **** it up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Good idea with the 1/4" piece of wood mounted to the factory screw holes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

No it's not a taurus, it's a Lincoln Mark VIII... But I have had the panel off to take a look, and it really shouldn't be too hard.

5x7 is not 6x9.

a 6.5" speaker will not fit in a 5x7 location without modification - I've tried.

I had to do a 5 1/4" comp set on plates to make it fit in 5x7 holes because it was a lease car and permanent mods arent exactly permitted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Seems like a pretty complicated project for your first experience with fiberglass, I'd definitly practice on easier stuff first, but if you insist, make sure you go SLOWLY, dont rush fiberglassing. If it comes out looking good I will be impressed and surprised //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yeah I always jump into shit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I will go slowly, and I'm reading about it as much as I can first, looking at walk throughs and stuff, I have seen the glassman DVD's etc. I'm gonna try to do it with as little modification to my door as possible so that if I do mess it up I didn't dig a hole that I can't get out of //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
