Suggestions on a 12"?

I currently have a RE SX in a ported box 2cubes at 36 hz. I like it alot but ive got a little 3 series bmw and i cant do much with that tiny trunk. the SX is **** loud and sounds good but i feel i am not getting it to its full potential which is why i feel it should be sold to someone who can make it happy.

so im looking for a 12 inch around 500 rms thats gonna give me some nice output and sound well when doing it. Ive been reading around and seen stuff about putting subs in smaller, lower tuned boxes.

it seems to be the IDQ and Diamond D3 are pretty good subs for what im looking to do. have any suggestions to any other subs or what box i should build?

I recommend the diamond audio d3 or the jl audio w6 12. Both will sound good and get loud.

ye ye im on a budget so no w6 but im diggin the d3.

anyone know about using a sub like this in a smaller ported box (1-1.75 cubes) tuned real low (28 hz range)

Check into the new SI Mag. Require small enclosures and don't take much to get it moving, so 500rms would be perfect.

Will not have the output the SX did, but will sound nice.

I think a 10'' would be better in the size enclosure you're wanting to use. I have a 10'' Fi BL in 1.6 cubes, which is on the larger side of what mosts 10's need.

i dont like 12"s, they lack the punchy, quick response a 10" and 8" give, and lack the SPL that 15" and 18" gives. Pretty much the worst of both worlds.

ill trade ya straight up for my Claw Basket mag. 12" D2. I had a HC and loved it, woofer got stolen from me and blown up, i got it back... kept it for like 2 years and just sold it. So, Ill trade ya straight.

I was about to ream you sooo hard.

But, an 8 or 10 would be a better choice if space is a necessity.

As most people on this forum will tell you, (because it's the truth), an 8" can hit the same notes as a 15, or 18", and if the efficiency is right, it can produce a better response than a 15 or 18" in the same space. (Space being smaller, of course). While the bigger the sub has the capability of getting loud, you normally need more space.

Cliff notes: If you need room, get an 8 or 10.
