he is correct, and it depends on your personal preference, spl or sq also. loading your subs to the back of the trunk or the corners will sometimes give you a slight rise. but it is definately a each case type of thing

 
it is personal opinion. my buddy had 2 12' r's ported they sounded better facing forward because of all the trunk rattle. and we put his back seats down alot so it sounded even better

it would probably sound better if he deadened the trunk lid and faced them back.
