I already have two 15s running on a 1400 rms amp....after installing two more brand new lanzar max pros on a kicker kx1200.1 they locked up after 5 min. Second run just installed two orions 15 h2s 1200 rms each and now I've been playing them in 20-30 sec intervLs and they smell like there going to blow as well. After looking at one of the h2s that are turned up for 10-15 sec it will stop then come back on. Is this an electrical problem, my kicker amp frying them a polarity issue? I did the good old battery trick and made sure they were pushing out. But from my past installs I remember I had to flip the wires on the second amp even though the polarity/phase was still accurate. I think I may have just fried a.perfect set of h2s that I just freaking bought.

You are clipping them to death.... Find someone that can help you set your amp gain correctly. The best way is a O-scope or SMD DD-1. Check out all 3 parts of these videos

Gain at 45% and bass was at 4...I no not to abuse the knobs. I was wondering if the ground isn't

Enough.

I have the ground running off my third battery in the back.

Hard to just guess at setting gains

A lil bass boost is ok for songs that have no bass but when your going all out with a song with lots of bass its best to have no bass boost on amp or HU. What kinda power and ground wire are you using? What ohm voice coil and what's final ohm load on amp?

Sounds like your clipping them to death tho.

Find you a 40hz non boosted test tone. Play that with no bass boost, no level boost. Bass or eq flat on HU.

Set gain all the way down play that test tone start turning gain up and stop when the note sounds like it changes. At this point back the gain off a hair till note sounds like 40hz again and this will have you close.

Will not be perfect but it will be a lot closer than guessing.

The gain is not a volume knob - setting it at 45% does not mean it's putting out 45% of it's power...

You need to match it to the input voltage from your headunit.

If you understand what I said try that. (I know I don't word things right a lot)

And what n8skow said is completely right. I'll explain it a little more.

The more pre out voltage your HU puts out the LOWER you set your gain.

My HU puts out 4 volts so most amps my gain is set close to 1/4. Depending on amp I use I might go over 1/4 a lil or under.

Get ya a O-scope you can learn about clipping and how much you can use for burps

Right now running from the kx1200.1 I have 4ga copper plated alum. I noticed the the 250 amp fuse I used to run this secondary wire to my battery that it must be getting super hot because it went from gold plated to a tarnished look to it. Now I have zero gauage ran to ground the two batterys in the back but here the down fall the wire I have from batter front to batter in the back is 6ga. I have an electrician that wants to sell me triple 000 guage used to run some type of underground electrical for cell towers but it is all copper wiring. $2 a foot. I just think the kicker isn't getting much strength to it because of my wiring. The hifonics 1400.1 wired to 1 ohm on two kicker 15 cvrs are doing great and have been the last 8 months but after wiring up the rest the kicker kx1200.1 and the two Orion h2 running at 1 ohm isn't doing so well and its destroying the subs that I match to it. The preouts on my head unit are 5v I wish someone lived close to help. Anyone live in pompano beach Florida.
