subwoofers rise too much??

wire my two subs in series. one lands on 1.7, the other lands on 1.7.

then when wiring in series again i get 5.5 ohms when it should be 3.4-3.5.

WHY?

I tested the resistance in each strande of wire, not that. im lost, because im getting 2 ohms extra from nothing.. im mad.

One minor factor, one sub has minor rub as the coil is missaligned with the spider slighly, however when i run the impedance on just that subwoofer it tests correctly at 1.7, so i feel it is not the culprit.

all help is appreciated. thank you.

at measuring each terminal i get 1.2-1.5. then when i wire each sub in series i get 1.7 per. finally when i wire in series again i get 5.5. and i measured the resisitance of each strand of wire. the probes. and i still get 5.5. i do not understand why theyre rising so high.

the coils are rated at .7ohm. now ive only been running one over the past few months, and the other has sitten. the fact they both are reading off makes me think my meter is on the ritz, for its only a $15 autozone, the coils are copper colored. this is puzzling.

later today ill put them on my clamp and dmm and see what power im getting out of my amp, that can help me see the impedance.

Your dmm is probably wrong or there's something moving the woofers when you measure them combined. A breeze, someone nearby playing music, a lot of little stuff can make resistance fluctuate. .

If you really care to see your true impedance invest in WT3, they're 100$ at partsexpress.

This^^^... a DMM will not show you true impedance - it shows you DCR.

yeah im hoping to get around to getting that for christmas. ive been eyeing it up.

moneys a bit tight, lame excuse but its how it is.

All in all i want to say that my dmm is off. because although its not the .7 ohm per coil like it used to be, the readings are consistant. about 1.5 ohm per coil, wired in series twice yields 5.5-5.7 ohms, and then when wired in series parallel i get around 1.6-1.8. regardless 1.6-1.8ohm works for this application, although the true reading is probably off.
