Subwoofer Surround...preventive maintenance!

Ok, so I just bought my magnum d2 12 back from speedyd! I had to have it back, I love it...decided I needed it to just have it around!

Anyways, as i was examining it...I checked the movement of the cone by hand. I noticed on one part, there's almost a small crack where the surround meets the cone. If agitated a lot more, i'd obviously imagine it would rip open. It seems as if the surround was a little brittle...and got a crack in it.

Anyways, what can i do to help prevent the rip from happening?!?!?! It's my baby, and i don't want anything to happen to her.

Here's a few attempts at pics for you guys!

Suggestions?!?!

Give it a little swipe with some Armor All every once in a while. Keeps it nice and clean, also protects the surround from premature degredation.

All the subs I ship out are wiped down with the stuff before they leave - makes them look delicious

I had a similar problem with my Matrix Elite, mainly because something in my trunk hit the surround and ripped it a little, not all the way through the surround though.

I ended up just covering the spot with a small dab of contact cement, and it worked very well.

The only minus is that the cement looks a little bit ugly, but it is a flexible substance and stronger than the original surround.

good luck

Um, the Armor-all will not eat away at the foam surround, and you already have another suggestion... contact cement... which will definately fix your problem... so i don't know what miracle your waiting for...

Ok, j/w i know SS uses rubber surrounds...that's why I posed the question. I'll just pick up some contact cement (never used it, get it at a hardware store...or a hobby store?)Also, I was leaving it open to any other revolutionary ideas that are out there...so chill. peace

sorry, no offense meant, but you see the other revolutionary ideas spewing... like to cover the whole surround with cement LOL... (don't do that)... anyways, contact cement has always been a widely used product to fix stuff like that.

you can find it at a hardware store, just put a little on a cue-tip and put a thin film above the tear
