one-way usable suspension/cone travel measured in millimeters
Actually, that would be xmech. xmax is generally defined at one-way linear travel. As in, distortion and/or motor force plays a role. Your definition is mechanical limits, as in how far the suspension/cone can travel before physical interferences occur.

xmax is usually defined in terms of measured distortion thresholds, or 70% of original motor BL (which affects BL distortion).

does that help when the amp has a
Since damping factor is measured in so many different ways by different manufacturers, and many intentionally measure it only in the most positive light possible, you can usually ignore damping factor. In theory its an important spec, in practice however its almost impossible to compare it across multiple manufacturers, again because they tend to measure it in different ways.

Oh, and Id chose the rebuilt versions, assuming they were built well. If SPLaudio rebuilt them, ya Id go that route. That ridiculously large surround on the originals hurt sd for no positive reason versus a modern high-roll surround.
