Hello everyone,
I have an 8" 100W bazooka tube subwoofer and I'm looking for an upgrade because this subwoofer isn't cutting it. I listen to mostly trance, techno, rock, and metal.
This is my first time building a subwoofer and amplifier combination and I could use some help. I have an Alpine CDE-9874 head unit and Polk Audio speakers throughout my 318i sedan.
I have done some research on the internet and from what I've read, a 12" subwoofer is good. I've been looking over Pioneer, Alpine, and Kicker.
Here are the products I've been looking at and could use some feedback:
http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/compareProduct.php?c=Alpine&model[]=SWR-1242D&model[]=SWR-1222D&source=/US-en/products/series-c.php&category=SUB
Solo-Baric L5 and L7 12" subwoofers: http://www.kicker.com/Subwoofers
and the Pioneer 12" subwoofers: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/CarAudioVideo/Subwoofers/Champion#section=models
I know I should be paying the most attention to the RMS rating, but how many Ohms should I be looking at?
I think one 12" subwoofer would suffice or what do you all suggest?
What should I be looking for in an amplifier? I read on the internet that it's good to go a little over the RMS rating on the amplifier and feed your subwoofer a little more power to have it play at it's max potential because you'd rather have more power then not enough so you can turn it up and down as you please.
Any suggestions, comments? Should I be looking at any other subwoofer brands? Anything else I need to know?
Thanks.
