a subsonic filter is basically a highpass crossover. when you ahve a ported box, you shouldnt play a sub below the tuning frequency of the enclosure, or you could damage it. The sub sonic filter just makes sure that you dont play bass below the tuning freq of the box. Not to important for spl, is important for daily driving
